Is this a good thing or a bad thing to happen??

Post by Stryker » Tue Mar 04, 2003 1:59 pm

I received a email this morning from a member of the band Godhead asking for the link to a video that I made to one of their songs a while back. Is that a good thing to happen, or is it the start of a ceise and desist lawsuit ??
It's all in the eye of the beholder...nahhh, it's all in the eyes of the creator.

Hmmm, could be they are just interested in it. I mean, if I wrote a song, I'd sure as hell wan't to see any music videos that people made to it. I'd just point them to the video, and say that you'd be glad to remove the link if they wish.

Yeah, a while back a guy contacted me saying he was looking for my videos. Now, this is strange because my videos have almost always been on servers here or there, so I assumed the guy was talking about the movie and asking to DL it. I basically told him to take a hike and find a Suncoast and buy the damn thing.
Funny part of that story is taht a couple of weeks ago he mesaged me on AIM, saying that he thought we had a miscomunication (as we had), and he explained that he was a totally technicaly illiterate member of the band Tonic, the band to which my AMV had been made. He really was pretty stupid when it came to computers, and for some reason I believe what he said.
When I tried to apologize for using the music he just kind of did a "0_0" and laughed at me. He said everyone in the band was excited to see it. I think it's cool, man.

well what i personaly would do is give them the link but also mention that u bought the CD to rip it and such, that way if they would want to give ya a lawsuit, they would MAYBE think twice.

But be stealthy about it. Say "When I heard this one song on your CD I just had to make the vid, it fit perfectly XD", or something along that line.

If a lawsuit is in the works not giving them a link probably won't change anything, so you might as well play nice and give them one.

I'd say they really are interested in seeing it. Kudos may follow.

Of course if they wind up feeling offended by the content of the video then there might be problems, but again: not giving them a link won't change that.

Keith.

I just have to say that "want" doesn't have the " ' " between the n and the t. Don't mind that.

As for the topic, Zarxrax's idea looks better than another i can think of except to run for it, go to canada or something.

If they're on a major label, it would be the label's lawyers coming after you, not the band, in most cases. When Island sued Negativland, U2 didn't even know what was happening until it was too late.

Strange : it happened today too for Inoceram.
He's made an AMV with a music by GodHead and was contacted by "a member of the group"
