How to install codecs?
A vid says it needs the newest Xvid codec. So I go, and download it. All is going fine. But can I install it so I can watch the vid on the Windows Medioa player? It's not like DivX where it comes as an executable.

XviD is distributed as source code. Go get a compiler and linker.Anime Jedi wrote:A vid says it needs the newest Xvid codec. So I go, and download it. All is going fine. But can I install it so I can watch the vid on the Windows Medioa player? It's not like DivX where it comes as an executable.
There are some people who provide binary packages; do a search for "Koepi" "XviD".

If that doesn't work for some reason, there is a link in AD's and Ermac's guide to take you to Koepi's to get the newest binary.

Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Anime Jedi, Koepi's page has links to precompiled codecs for windows.
http://roeder.goe.net/~koepi/
I have yet to find an XviD encode that can't properly be played back with
"Nic's latest standalone decoder DirectShow filter _only_",
available from Koepi's XviD page.
If you actually want to do XviD encodes, I suggest getting the latest development binary.
Hope that helps.
