Well an interesting thing happened just now in my VB class. This guy (Can't remeber the name) suggested an anime DVD site to a guy in my VB class. He said "10 bucks a DVD"
I think to myself (HK DVD's no doubt)
Then he says "over 1000 titles"
I think to myself (Probaly old reject Manga titles like Psycho Diver and BioHunter.)
Then he procededs to tell me about how he has FLCL all eps on ONE disk and the quality is actually pretty good.
And somewhere in the conversation I heard the words. "Me and my friend run the site."

Well I've seen his face enough to pick him out of a lineup, can't remember the name, but then again I could do some good. Maybe ask him if he could get ahold of some digibeta footage of anime that has yet to be licenced and see about doing some DVD quality fansubs or something along those lines. On the other hand, I could take him into a dark alley and, well, lets just leave the rest to the imagination. What do you think I should do?

i suggest the dark alley option, more interesting and far more entertaining

I'm not quite sure how the HK operation worls. Do the people making the DVD's actually use Digibeta footage? or do they just rip the DVD footage from existing DVD's and then over compress them and add subs?

I believe some do it their way and some do it another way.

For the case of bootlegs of anime already released, most bootleg companies will just compress the DVDs and then press them.

For anime which hasn't been released, I believe they get R2 copies, compress the anime and then add subs and press.
