Smalltalk, anyone?

Post by y2kwizard » Sat Mar 01, 2003 1:37 pm

Hey, all. Recently I've been contemplating learning the programming language smalltalk. Has anyone here had any experience with this language? How useful is this compared to C++ or Java? Did you actually enjoy programming with it?

Thanks a lot!

Never head of it... Is it a major language? .. Or better put, is it used in a lot of programs compared to Java and C++?

Well, I haven't delved deep into the language yet, but apparently it's an object-oriented language that's more pure than Java or C++ in terms of OO programming. I imagine that some of the programming junkies that frequent The Org have heard of it...they might be able to provide better info than I can, for I've just started looking at it over the last few days.

I think Java was based off of Smalltalk. Beyond that I have no experience or knowledge of the language.
I'm out...

Well, a site that I've found veyr informative is http://www.whysmalltalk.com/

It looks like an interesting language...I wonder if it is actually as good as it claims to be.
