Yeah, but if he has a bunch of VHS tapes, all the Beta decks in the world are worth nothing to him.

I have a Panosonic. Great VHS I have had it for 5 years. It plays and records both SLP and EP. (Or are those the same thing) Great 5 years hasn't missed a beat. I also have a JVC it's only about 2 years old, it now eats tapes, but when it was in it's prime it would play and record EP tapes; however, those records were at such a low quality it wasn't even funny. Playback sucked too.

In short.

Don't just find one that can play them, find one that can play them well.
