Compressing Small Videos as Far as they Can go

Ok heres the situation:

I am making a flash clip for a signature on another forum

the size is 320x156 the clip is approx. 30 to 40 seconds long

I need the size of the clip as small as possible because I can't afford to have the clip any larger than 500kb

now heres where it gets tricky..

everytime I compress it I get obsene sizes like 18 megs, 9 megs.. or whichever..

what Can I do from the start of the .mov file (which is the file of the original clip) to the import process in Flash MX, to make it as small as possible, without making it in watchable.. I want to preserve as much quality as possible knowing im going to have to sacrifice some to get the size I need

any and all tips, techniques, plug ins, or whatever I don't know (and I don't know much) would be GREATLY appreciate

definately use eo-video i got one of my vids for 68 to 31mbs without the loss of quality, and it reads .mov and .rm

I would try dropping it to 10 fps, then throwing it into Jasc's animation shop, converting it to a smaller resolution, and then exporting it into flash.

Bitmap tracing with a large with color threshold set to 100

Cool effect too.

er.. wait, are we talking video codecs here or what? I'm a n00b when it comes to flash stuff.

EO Video is not really a good compression program...

wow i made it a meg large! (thanks to that EO video compressing program)

thanks alot and I haven't even compressed it in that flash program you told me about

now hopefully it'll compress it to 500 kb (only half way to go) and all will be well
