mouse/keyboard failure

Post by Cagbagger » Fri Feb 21, 2003 12:16 am

ok, first of all, i couldn't find any where else this post would go, so bear with me please.

I had recently purchased a new motherboard msi kt4 ultra. Since i have windows 2000, the guy who sold it to me at the shop told me i needed to do a repair on it before i fully booted to windows 2000. So, I installed everything, then popped in the windows 2000 prof. disk, and changed the bios to have the cd boot first. all is good, so then windows startup asks me for an emergency repair disk in order to run the repair option that i needed. Since my current computer couldn't get to windows to create an emergency repair disk, i made one on my other computer that had windows 2000. So then i popped that in, and it completed the repair. I restarted, and went into windows 2000, but found that neither my mouse or keyboard worked. I tried unplugging them, switching them, everything imaginable, but it still didn't work. I tried restarting my system, going into different boot modes for windows 2000, but nothing works! I even tried doing another repair. Both the mouse and keyboard are functional and not broken. Especially the keyboard, considering i can use it until i hit the windows startup screen, then it freezes and becomes unfunctional. I have another hard drive, and was considering installing windows 2000 on that, so that i have 2 hdd that have win2k prof. on them, then try to see if the mouse and keyboard will work when i boot up with that hdd. but i wasn't sure.

If any one could help me with this dilemma, then i would greatly appreciate it. thank you.

i don't think that's the problem, the keyboard works fine, just not windows. I can operate the bios and windows startup menu off the cd, just when it boots into windows is the problem

Again, i really don't think it's a problem with the ps/2 connections because the keyboard works fine in the bios screen and windows 2000 setup, just not in windows itself. but i will try your recommendation, thank you.
