Post by SoldierHeart » Thu Feb 20, 2003 5:32 am

Im using huffy, but its darkening my videos so i have to use gamma, which is destroy the quality. Have i missed some huffy settings or should i choose another codec?

huffyuv is not darkening your encodes at all... it doesn't do that.

There must be some other explanation for the change in luminance such as the luminance being higher on the natural playback of your source.

Seems your right, get it darkend even when using uncompressed. Any ideas as of why? Im using Premiere and it looks bright in the preview but the saved file is darkend.

None or huffy. DivX 4 for finals.

More importantly what are you using to play back and judge the brightness. If one of your overlays has a different brightness setting than the other, obviously it's going to be different in certain players than in something like virtualdub or premiere.

On another note DivX 4 is not recommended. Get xvid or the divx 5.03 codec, there's no reason not to but plenty of reasons why you should :\

I don't know why it's darkening your video, I use HUFFY all the time and never experience any problems like that. Go with what Klinky suggested and use Virtualdub, I do the same and never have any problems with my encoding. (Save for the one fact that Virtualdub isn't the fastest program out there)

I use Premiere for uncompressed, then virtualdub for divx, i found most people dont have divx5 and divx4 to be just as good.

When i import files into the timeline in premiere and view the right preview window its all bright, then when i save as uncompressed its darkend.

what about when you build an actual preview in premiere? like, not exporting. just hitting enter and let it render like that, then look at it in the preview window. how does it look then?

if its dark then, check the opacity (rubber bands) of all your layers, check any effects and such.
