Well... although I've never actaully seen it happen, you could wait till after the contest deadline for Acen (which is april 16th), then premiere your video on the org. That way, nobody will be able to turn yours in an claim it as thiers. Also, if you made the video using a high quality source, make sure to submit your video to the con with HQ compression such as MPEG2. That way, if someone happened to steal your video by downloading it, there will be a clear quality difference and people will know that you were the real editor. yep...RubyHatchet wrote:Hi! I was hoping to post my Hellsing amv, and get some feedback on it before I take the video to ACEN 2003, but I've heard horror stories of people taking their videos to a con and having it disqualified because some jerk downloaded the video from a-m-v.org and brought it as their own video.
But I guess it all depends on how much it happens... so... how much does this happen? Should I wait until after ACEN to post my video or can I safely post it without worrying *too* much?

If you were protective with your amv to the extreme you could do a small overlay of your name or some on a couple of frames where it wouldn't be obvious when when you watch it. That way you can prove it to be your video and it is difficult to remove. Aluminum studios does this on a couple of his vids but I think resorting to this kind of stuff is really unnessasary and more of a protective ego thing... IMO

Someone did come onto the forums one time and said that someone had downloaded their video and submitted it as their own.
The problem with that was the guy didn't actually go to the con himself.
He had read the contest listing and there was a video with the same song and anime as his. He had said someone else had told him that it was his but he wasn't even there firsthand.
Turns out he emailed the con person and they told him it was not his (a lot of preliminary contest showings omit creator names) so...he came back and apologized.
Another urban legend debunked

Agreed; I'm thinking about doing that for a potential ACen submission. You can also shuffle things around a bit to differentiate it from the online distro, and make those changes clear to any curious con personnel.Koop the crazy mofo wrote: Also, if you made the video using a high quality source, make sure to submit your video to the con with HQ compression such as MPEG2. Although, on a slightly different note, I'd actually be honored to have one my videos stolen. It'd mean that somebody actually thought that my work was good enough to steal.
Which is kinda cool.
