Reasons for some animes...
I have noticed that a lot of Japanese anime is rather disturbing. They can be the most violent and erotic I've ever seen. American cartoons, no matter what the targeted audience is, could never be as gory or thought-provocative as some of the animes. With all the regulations in Japan, is this a way for the people to express their ideas instead of letting them sit in their head? If so, they have some very shocking thoughts.

Well sorry but um the hobbit and the return of the king are aimed directly at children which makes them all the better. Lord of the rings and wizards are examples of the horror of rotoscope animation and wizards is definitley aimed at adults but piss poor if you aske me. Fritz the cat while not aimed at children is just annoying. I had seen all this stuff before I had saw slayers and slayers just whiped the pallete clean and got rid of all my prejudices against japanese animation. It's hard for me to like american animation aimed at adults because we have never mastered funny/serious my favorite kind of show. For american animation I prefer Eek the cat and Family guy and south park.MistyCaldwell wrote:Obviously you have never heard of animation from the 1960's and 70's called Fritz the Cat. Or Wizards, and the Lord of the Rings and Hobbits animated version seemed hardly designed for a child audience.

Yes I agree Wizards was really dumb and Fritz was...a little confusing as I did not live through the 60's...but still certainly show not all animation in america was intended for children.
in all truthfulness, the Merry Melodies wasn't intended for children but it would be a stretch to call them intellectual

I have not heard of Fritz, but what I wrote was by no means my pov. I am into animation and comics a whole deal, which is why I'm annoyed by the general attitude towards comics and cartoons not only in america, in many other places too. Of course I know that not all animation was or is geared towards children.Misty wrote:Obviously you have never heard of animation from the 1960's and 70's called Fritz the Cat. You might wanna check out "Understanding Comics", by Scott McCloud, much of what he says is not only applicable towards comics, but cartoons in general.
