HELP ME with Identifying THIS ANIME!!!!

Post by cyancat » Thu Feb 06, 2003 12:24 am

OK, I wish I had a picture to show you, but I will try to describe it as best as possible.
Ok fisrt thing, I got this music video called "PHANTOM" and that was it, no creator mark or anything. Anyway the video is to the song Phantom Of the Opera, that is I guess techno remixed or something, but it sounded great. Even my anime roomie and friends couldn't tell what the anime was.

My speculations of the anime:
There is supposedly this woman to was a opera singer and i guess died inside the opera house, for pictures of her long decayed corpse are shown as she holds a bright red rose. She herself wears a huge red gown and had long brown hair, gold earings, and always surrounded or at least all over there are roses.

Two men in space suits enter the opera house and I guess are investigating it or something, One guy is tall and with very short close to the head blond hair. The other guy is smaller and has long locks of brown hair. We see pictures of the woman all over the house. Then we see her, sometimes flying around, or as a robot, or a hologram.
The guy with the brown hair apparently falls for her and is pulled into her trap. I guess he kinda falls in love with her or something, Anyway he has delusions of the old times when she was alive. The other man has encounter with her as they fight and then suddenly he's on top of a house and we see this little blond haired girl falling back from the roof of the house and then shes crashing down to the ground.

I guess this is something that happened in the guys past and she's tormenting him with his memories. Also there are two or three, I don't know, little cherubs that hold bowls over their head that are flying around the house too. Maybe they attack the guys too, again I don't know.

Anyway the last stuff I see is the blond man floating away in space surrounded by small debris and inside his space helmet are rose petals which he softly blows around the helmet. The other guy with brown hair is then seen, wearing the old type of clothes, ya know knickers and all that 1700's stuff, and he's sitting with the singer in a garden full of roses.

I think that the anime was made as a one time movie or something.
Well I came to the forum so that I could find a name. Hopefully someone out there can help. Sorry if this is lengthy, I just want to make sure you get the right idea.. Thanks so much!!! :D

It SOUNDS like Kevin Caldwells video made with a movie called Memories, which is, from my understanding (haven't seen it m'self) essentially thre short films bundled together.

But I am unsure, and you should wait for one more knowledgeable to verify my claim.

yep .. it was a damn nice video too Caldwell even though he left the community left some nice video's ive slowly started to uncover for myself. (yes im a n00b still)
...the problem I see a lot is that many good amv makers think they suck, and many bad amv makers think they're good.
I've seen it happen, man! I've SEEN IT!..

Yes.

The AMV is Kevin Caldwel's AMV from the first film from Memories (entitled "Magnetic Rose")

Memories is 3 short films bundled into one and is an excellent film.

Actually memories is a crappy film. Get the comic book it makes a little more sense.

Made perfect sense to me just watching the film. I don't really know what would seem vague. Never met anyone who found the film confusing before.

Actually, because of the clever directing in the first film, I knew where things were going to end up just because of the combination of music choice combined with action. One of the best pieces of direction I've seen in anime (I often use the scene of an example of how one can tell a lot without one word being uttered)

The film is also known by some as Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories, which may help in searching for it.

At the very least, one cannot go wrong by searching for "Memories" and "Katsuhiro Otomo".

Maybe I stated that wrong Its not as clear cut as to what's going on as the comic. Cannon fodder I liked it was neat a whole society that is constantly at war. But Stink bomb had too much anti american sentiment in it for me.
