Music volume

Post by Lone Wolf » Fri Jan 31, 2003 8:13 pm

Why do different songs have such a drastic volume difference? I listen to a bunch of other songs, but when I switch to Saliva - Always, I can barely hear it. I have to turn the volume all the way up on my speakers.

Why don't recording studios have a standard volume level?

I've noticed this a lot with downloading mp3s. Some are quiet, some are incredibly loud. It's strange.

My multi-disc CD player has a feature called ADLC. If you turn it on, it picks a certain volume level and plays every CD at that level, whether it's a super-quiet CD (like my Scotland Yard Gospel Choir CD) or one that sounds like it was recorded to blow speakers (the first Kid 606 album is like this, you really have to adjust the volume before you hit play or you're going to be blown across the room like that guy on the old Maxell tape commericals).

You can do a post-gain (volume increase) without having to recompress your mp3 using this program:

It's a pain in the ass isn't it?
