I know no one here even knows who I am, and probably doesn't care either, but goodness...stuff like this makes me wonder why I'm even trying to make an attempt to get involved in this community. I've been making AMV's since around September, and while I'm certainly no "pro" (I'm still stuck with that uber-crappy Windows Movie Maker until I can afford something better) compared to some of you people, I can't believe the elitism and blatant favoritism that takes place here. As a long-standing and somewhat well-known member of the Gundam community, some of you AMV elitists make the hardcore Universal Century elitists I see so often there look like little kids crying because they spilled their milk, and they can usually be really nasty too.
So yeah, like I said, I'm a Gundam fan, especially of the underappreciated Gundam X series. That's practically instant damnation for me in this community. In other words, no one here could probably give a flying frack about my very existence, but on the other hand, people in the Gundam community love what I do, and not just because they know about the anime I'm using either. With that in mind, I don't think that gives someone who's not educated on the anime featured in someone's video the right to say whether or not it's "art" simply because they know little to nothing about it or the reasons behind someone making the video they're watching. That's horribly shallow. Like I said, I'm no pro, and my methods are kinda crude, but to shun people just because they use a certain method or anime? Gods, that's pathetic. Sure, I realize that there are some really crappy videos out there that should have never seen the light of day, but by shunning these people, how will you ever know if these people could eventually improve and become a skilled creator?
Think of me as a whiny, egotistical, hypocritical bitch if you will from just this first post of mine (goodness knows I've heard it before whenever I speak my mind), but I'm only speaking what I feel after my many months of lurking, learning, and observing on the old boards. If someone chooses to leave a community because they're sick of the bickering and/or elitism, it's their choice, and judging by the way some people here are, they're probably a better person for it too. If I were well-known here, I'd probably want to leave too.
Who gets the most reviews and the highest ratings doesn't always determine who's the best creator; it usually seems to determine who makes the more popular video. I'm perfectly content having few to no reviews for my videos; I'd rather just have people see them and appreciate them for what they are. If they like them and wish to tell me in one way or another, that's fine. More power to them. But I refuse to sell out by using overused anime/music/concepts just to gain popularity; I'd rather start a trend than follow one. I'm not in this for the contests (after all, how many contests even allow WMV-format videos anyway?) or the recognition, I'm in this for the love of the anime and the music I'm using, and I'll use whatever I can scrounge up to realize my visions, regardless of the quality of the source or whatever flak I'd get for using certain sources. Given the way this community is, I think that concept has been lost on a lot of people here.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm just going to disappear back into the shadows known as the Gundam fandom until I feel it necessary to make my presence known here again...
