AOL/Compuserve users beware

In order to make you believe that your AOL/CS loads the internet fast, it actually lowers the quality of pics so that they may be loaded faster. And the quality change can be murderous to the best of pics.

If you don't believe me, look at this bitmap I made that compares the same pic from how it appears on AOL, and from how it appears on Internet Explorer.

RIGHT-CLICK ME AND USE "Save Target As".

If you use Internet Explorer to look at pics, they'll be in their original quality. I mention this cause I notice that Superspike's Avatar is 2Kb. But when I made his Avatar for him, it was 5.91Kb. I know he didn't lower the quality himself, so I figured he was using AOL/CS when he saved it. So, he ended up uploading the lower quality version as his Avatar.

This seems to me like it would only occur if you were using the AOL browser, but the AOL browser is based off of IE or was is it Netscape now? Or does AOL add .ART capability to IE and then somehow mangles all your stuff

Yes, it only happens if you use the AOL/CS Browser. And yes, it changes them to ARTs. But even if use AOL/CS for your internet, you can still use Internet Explorer to see pics in their normal quality.

I mainly brought this up because we're all Anime fans and we like to collect pics, and I wanted to make sure that everyone got the best out of their pic collecting. ^_^

Or change the AOL/CS settings to 'Never compress graphics' like the page says.

This is all another reason why I am glad I do not have AOL on my computer any more (thank god from DSL). Hell when I did have to use AOL I would never use the AOL brower because I though that the AOL browser suck.
