AMVs & People who just want your work for the content
OK, I've recently put up a video(a really long video) featuring Linkin Park and Kingdom Hearts, as well as Kingdom Hearts II.
Alright, make that 2 AMVs.
Anyway, for both the AMVs, I put in the description that everyone can email me for a higher quailty version or to bypass Tripod's wicked Bandwidth laws via over-IM transfer.
Recently, I've been recieving a lot of emails and IMs, asking for both of the AMVs. Atleast 5, but I lost count a long time a go. Now, as far as my questions have been going with the people who wanted to see the higher quailty version/bypass Tripod's laws, they've all basically told me that they only want to see the AMV because it has Kingdom Hearts II in it. Which is sad.
In fact, what's even more depressing, is that no one so far(that I know of) has even read the descriptions of these videos, let alone opinion them.
I put my heart and soul into my videos, and for what? Just so people can go "Hey! AN anime I've never seen before! I'm going to download it! Who gives a shit about the thought put into it! Hey look! An added bonus! It's Linkin Park!"(Most of the people downloading it seem to be n00bs and lovers of Linkin Park).
This really tears my heart out, and has just about made me want to crawl into a corner, cry, and then give up AMV making even though it's one of the seldom things that makes me happy.
So, I just wanted to know, if anyone else had felt this way? With people leeching your videos for just the content of the video, and not the thought that was put into it?
I'd really like to know if some others are suffering the way I am. . .

You lost count after 5?
Anyways, I make these for me. If Im happy, than boom, Im happy. If other people are happy with my work, that makes me happy too. If other people dont like my work, then oh well, at least Im still happy with it.
If you are making these things purely for positive feedback or recognition, or just making them for other people and not yourself, you are in for a whole world of letdowns.
Just my 2 cents.

In my opinion, It's just the video quality that always sucks.and from what ive seen your videos suck.
No. I said I had at least five. And I lost count of the exact number because I didn't pay attention after that. You lost count after 5?
I make them for me, but it really tears me up that people only want to see my videos for the content (specifically Kingdom Hearts II).If you are making these things purely for positive feedback or recognition, or just making them for other people and not yourself, you are in for a whole world of letdowns.
My opinion was, that if people wanted to view my work, they should view my work and not the anime that happens to be in my work.
this isnt a bitch forum

if that's enough to make you quit then you' ain't hard core amv editor that you should be...
editing shouldn't be work...hell, its for fun and you sure dont' get damn paid for it....but editing should be done from your passion for anime and music and the artisical skill to express both into a lucrative music video. the profit you should be thinking about from this is the fact that you can share your vids with other ppl who appreciate the same thing you do.

I actually make mine for the negative feedback. It tells me how to get better.
If you want to bitch about feedback, try having 800 downloads of your video in 3 days with 2 10 word reviews. Thats what happened with "Not Another One". Or how about feeding time, energy, and hosting into a 141 meg project and having 3 of the five people that have actually taken the time to review it be from the project itself? M:I has had 180 GIGS of downloads in the last month. This is a thankless hobby in some respects, but if you're in it for the thanks, you're in it for the wrong reasons.

well....my two vids i have up so far is an anime not even half the ppl who's reviewed them have seen....
a) they saw it cuz they were interested in the song
b) they saw it cuz they were interested in the anime
c) they saw it cuz i made them
d) they saw it cuz they are fans of the song/anime
e) i have no idea
conclusively....i don't mind that they just dl it becuase of that...cuz truely...i'm just happy that they wanted to see it...period. and i have gotten emails from ppl who want to see my vids(when they weren't up) becuase they love the anime and just want to see the vid becuase they're such fans of the anime. that still makes me happy becuase i am providing them a new way of looking at the anime.
no one really thinks before they dl a vid about how much hard work an editor puts in it....its only after...adn the ones who are truely fans of your vid will leave an opinion and express how much they appreciate your work youve done for the vid. but you have to realize a vid will stike no two ppl the same...

Is anyone who is going to post in this thread actually going to answer my question?
50% Question.
Here it is again, for all of you who've failed to read it for the last three times I've posted it:
And in response to other stuff:SQ wrote:So, I just wanted to know, if anyone else had felt this way? With people leeching your videos for just the content of the video, and not the thought that was put into it?

I Believe editing is in the "AMV Making" catergory.SQ wrote:AMV making even though it's one of the seldom things that makes me happy.

O.o Didn't see that post. Must've been done as I was typing up mine. I retract my "Will anyone actually answer my question" statement.priuscomet wrote:conclusively....i don't mind that they just dl it becuase of that...cuz truely...i'm just happy that they wanted to see it...period. and i have gotten emails from ppl who want to see my vids(when they weren't up) becuase they love the anime and just want to see the vid becuase they're such fans of the anime. that still makes me happy becuase i am providing them a new way of looking at the anime.SQ wrote:So, I just wanted to know, if anyone else had felt this way? And on another note, I really didn't mind all the emails until I got this one:
Now, that doesn't say anything about exclusively downloading just for KH2, but I pretty much concluded from the look of the email that it was the base of his reasoning for wanting to download it. It also mentions something about a d/l problem, which I replied to him, told him why it happened, and where to get another one.(Just incase you all wanted to flame me on that).wussup... ima big fan ov amv's. i wuz searchin AnimeMusicVideos.org wen i came by urs. i tried d/l'in the RealPlayer version, but my download manager displayed an error half way thru it, it won't continue da d/l. i wuld 'preciate it if u sent meh da wmv version thru email if it izn't 2 much truble. congrats on finishin dis vid, i'll send bac my thots if i ever c it
But then all my hopes were lifted when I got this email:
Once I got that all my troubles had vanished and were refilled with "Wow, someone actually likes my stuff!"SQ
my friends saw the trailer and are very enthused by it.since none of them have a working email, could you please send me this amv. they pleaded with me for this. I only have windows media player and quicktime, not real media. Could you please send me a copy of your Challenges AMV in the WMV format. Thanks, and can you send it to the following Email [email here], the mac account belongs to my mother and I can only use it to send messages. the other account can receive messages but every letter I write through it ends up getting lost before I can send it. Thank you so very much
Thank you
But he could be making it up, who knows, I'm gullible, and if they lie to me about how they want to see my work that's fine. I'm cool with that, but coming up to me and saying "I want to see your KH2 Video" and not even knowing what it's called or what music it was too(which half the people didn't know) angered me a lot. If they just said "I want to see "challenges" or "Kingdom Hearts SPecial" That'd be easier on me.
As for allt he bitching, I know I do it a lot. I'll probably have a very long list of "SQ Haters" and end up being banned in only a month or so after this.
I can see it now:
"Petition to ban SQ for serious bitching"
Ah I know it's hopeless but I'm medication free for my Depression. . . As if that'd qualify as a good excuse for this.

I'll answer your question.
No, that's not how I feel at all. I make my videos for expressing something I have inside of me I want to see on the outside.....that sounds weird but it's the same feeling people who write or draw get. I do draw too btw...
When I have my ftp up, I don't consider it leeching if someone downloads an amv. I put it there. No one HAS to make their videos available for download. If you don't want to pay for something a good majority of your users won't even acknowledge, then don't host your videos. I wonder about all the websites out there that do what they do for free, pay for hosting, get huge bandwidth and pay for it outta their own pocket...I wonder why they do it. I am sure they have their reasons. They probably just enjoy it as their hobby.
So, you'll have to toughen up and keep hosting your videos, enjoy the feedback you get when you get it, op exchange a lot....or just take down your videos if it makes you feel so used.
