Robotech was first if i'm not mistaken..... but i'm not sure if its a rip-off someone told me it kind of eveolved into Gundam but that doesn't make much sense so i'm not sure.

You young'uns are so amusing.

Superdimensional Fortress Macross premiered in Japan in 1982, with the theatrical feature Macross: Do You Remember Love coming out in 1984. Today there's Macross Zero, which is a prequel series to the events of the original show.

This is the show that most people think of when the word "Robotech" is used. Robotech hit US airwaves in 1985, and was an amalgam of three unrelated shows: Macross, Southern Cross (the one with Dana Sterling), and Genesis Climber Mospeada (the one with Scott Bernard and the motorcycle armor).

Mobile Suit Gundam is an older show, and was released in April 1979. Theatrical versions of the TV show followed the same year, and up through 1982. Offshoots from the original series have been released up to the present day, with Gundam Seed.

All it took was about 10 minutes of online research to get the exact dates. Anyone can do it if their Google-fu is up to scratch.

it's all just one big thexter (or is it thexder?) rip off

One is neither a rip off of another. Yes indeed gundam did precede Robotech, but robo-anime have been around for many, many years. Tetsujin 28-go (aka: Gigantor, aka: Ironman Number 28) was circa 1963. Even Tetsuwan Atom (aka: Astro boy) was oldschool robo-anime, although he wasn't as massive and crinos as a gundam, he still was mechanical in many ways. So to argue that Robotech was a rip of Gundam, despite it apparent differences. Then indeed is gundam a rip-off of Tetsuwan?

I think not, but do discuss!
