So typical of this board. Post something that takes more than a minute to read and challenges people's traditional beliefs, are you're accused of being an elitest snob. People don't even read posts like this. They take in the first few sentences, assume they know what the rest is going to read like, as take it as a personal attack on their taste.
Well of course he didn't write all that, you reactionary dipshits. Sure it was cut and paste, but so what?
Ugh...why did Rage Against The Machine have to break up? We need them now more than ever.

I hear you there, even if their music wasn't as good as I hyped myself up to believe they still fought for something right and that makes them better than most other bands that I listen to.starwire wrote: Ugh...why did Rage Against The Machine have to break up? We need them now more than ever.

Rage Against The Machine? All they fought for is 1. record profits from uber-left college students and angry suburban youth, and 2. lame socialist revolution that I doubt they truly belive in. Yelling about the man and "advocating" (read:playing to the masses) dismantling society in radical, unworkable ways to build (and horribly fail at doing so) a dreamy utopia that is really just a totalitarian nightmare under a "benevolent" leftist guise is not right or admirable.
The only difference between the far left and the far right is the terminology. Both are equally bad.
And for the record, I'm pretty left myself. But I recognize bad shit when I see it.

So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Quite the way I feel. I was never a huge fan but I miss them. After September 11, 2001, we needed a band to step up and say something intelligent about the whole situation, but hardly anyone bothered to, and those that did were ignored in favor of the crappy flag-waving anthems that the American public just ate up in the months that followed. Must make us Americans look pretty stupid to the rest of you...Cardinal.jpg wrote:I hear you there, even if their music wasn't as good as I hyped myself up to believe they still fought for something right and that makes them better than most other bands that I listen to.

After RATM, Audioslave seems like a cheap consolation prize.

That is way harsh, I suppose being as violent as they are some could see them as BS, but they do fight none the less, even if all they do is create realisation where it was not before then they are still benefitting a greater cause. Eg: Zapatistas in Mexico or the fight for a fair trial of Mumia Abu Jamal. There a few other major causes they reveal through their medium.Kthulhu wrote:Rage Against The Machine? Also to say that they work only for record profits is a bit rich. They fired their manager at Sony when poeple found downloading Renegades were banned from Napster. Then Tom worked hard to establish file sharing again. They also held a free concert after they made their stand at Lalapalooza III, not playing any music they then held their concert for all the people who missed out on the day.

Mr Oni
I hate when bands think they have to cater to the left.
Purity is wackable!
