Rozard wrote: I wonder how many other people were confused by what I initially wrote. I think I made enough inference for the reader to pick up on my meaning, but I guess many people, like me, don't really care.
I had to care, otherwise I wouldn't know whether or not you were wrong.
Rozard wrote:When did we start talking about Star Wars parodies? What kind of analogy is that, anyway? I was simplifying the message of the song (with a point of view, mind you), and you come back with the comment "Just look at all those Star Wars parodies for proof?" What do you even mean by that?
I mean that just because you can make fun of (or "simplify," in your words) something, that doesn't make it as bad as you try to make it look. I thought that was pretty clear.
Rozard wrote:As for the subject matter of "Lucky" being original, I never said that it wasn't. But then again, how many other artists could come out with a song about being the center of the world's attention, yet having no one to love, yet not realizing that's why she's sad? And please, if you have a different interpretation of the lyrics, share them here, because I'd be interested to hear what you think the song means.
No, I don't have a different interpretation of them, I just have a greater appreciation of them. The song doesn't actually say why Lucky is sad, it just says that fame and glory (where have I heard that before...?) don't guarantee happiness. That's more than what you hear out of most performers, who sing (if it can be called that, which often it can't) about either (a) love, (b) hate, or (c) themselves and how great they are. Come on, ANYONE can write about that.
Rozard wrote:Now, on the subject of "Lucky" being deep, that's bullshit. I don't know what causes you to think this song is deep in any aspect. I observe it as shallow, which is the opposite of deep if you didn't know. How vain can someone be if they're on top of the world, yet complaining about her problems?
At what point was Lucky vain? Did the song ever say that she admired herself in the mirror for hours, or ordered all of the purple Skittles removed from the bowl, or did anything else indicating that she was vain? No. The story was not told from Lucky's point of view. The song is about the public's perception and admiration of her, their belief that she must be happy because she is a celebrity, and why that belief is false. It's about rejection of materialism and learning the hard way about what's important in life.
Rozard wrote:I'm not even going to bring up the whole "99% or pop and metal" you said, but I have to say something about that line being one of the best lyrics you've ever heard. For me, that title's reserved for lines like "Yesterday/Love was such an easy game to play/Now I need some place to hide away/Oh, I believe in Yesterday"
Translation: "I can't get some anymore, so I'll live in the past"
Rozard wrote:and "Purple haze all in my brain/Lately things just don't seem the same/Actin' funny, but I don't know why/'Scuse me while I kiss the sky."
Translation: "Whee, I'm high on drugs!"
Rozard wrote:As for one of the best lyrics I've heard recently, "Century opens like we're breaking yellow tape at the scene/Of something criminal, beyond obscene/Caught just a glimpse, another rubbernecker rocketing past/All perpetrators, or refugees?" Burning Airlines - Identikit
Translation: "The future is going to suck"
Rozard wrote:Is that supposed to impress me? "An ungodly huge amount." Wow, that's astounding. I would think with that much in your repertoire, you would choose to listen to something more satisfying and engaging.
I do. I listen to songs that are much less interesting than the ones I've mentioned, too. I even listened (voluntarily) to a Limp Bizkit song earlier today that I thought sucked, just because it was there and I wanted to listen to something that I don't normally hear. Most of the time, though, I stick with my "Tier One" songs.
Rozard wrote:Well, the "She's pretty hot and has tits" comment, accompanied with the

Oh, that. yeah, that was pretty lame.
Rozard wrote:She's female, and she's older than I am (almost 20) so she's done with puberty. In fact, she was almost finished with puberty when he first album came out, so I don't see how her voice changed because of it. It could be because of drinking and smoking, but I'm not going to speculate into her extracurricular activities.
I don't think she smoked when she was twelve... I also don't see what you're trying to say.
Rozard wrote:Many schools have come down hard on the dress/behavior. Besides, what kind of school? Private/Public? Where is this school located? It could be balls cold (which hasn't stopped girls at my old school before

Public school, and it was a warm day. FYI, the public schools here don't enforce dress codes very well. I once saw a High Schooler with the words "Senior Cleavage" written in ink across her chest (just under her neck), with an arrow pointing downward and aforementioned cleavage quite visible. And there were all those beer shirts that the dress code had a specific rule against... and the backless shirts... and the bazillion other things...
Rozard wrote:Besides, one instance doesn't constitute finality. I work at a grocery store, and every day children come in with their parents, so I see this about every day.
Yeah, but you live in
Florida. Of course people there will be dressing lightly.
Rozard wrote:You'd choose Britney over Janet? Janet paved the way for Britney and has more talent than her.
I don't know what you mean by "choose," but it was Madonna, not Janet, who "paved the way" for Britney. And I've yet to meet a Janet song that has any kind of melody that I can detect. Not that I've heard a great deal of Janet's songs, mind you, but I've heard a few, none of which I liked.
Rozard wrote:Hell, I think Janet is even hotter than Britney.
She definitely has better abs

I'm not too sure about the rest, though. Both have as-yet undetermined amounts of makeup, plastic, and/or silicone. If Janet is anything like her brother when it comes to makeup... well, I'd rather not think about that.
Rozard wrote:As for the other artists, how can you pass judgment from just one or two songs?
I can't pass judgement on the artists, but I did pass judgement on the songs that I'd heard. I'm entitled to that much, aren't I?
Rozard wrote:Perhaps I won't, but say I didn't
Perhaps we should stop this whole "perhaps" thing, it's getting kind of stupid...
