Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

RM isn't a format either. It's a container for audio and video streams.

RealAudio (Audio Stream)
RealVideo (Video Stream)

Mux them, it's an RM file.

I thought MPEG IS a format, rm too, but not avi... because mpeg and rm have set rules that you have to follow while avi doesnt, it works with formats like Xvid that sets the rules that are in the avi environment.

Therefore afaik a format sets the rules and a container (or environment) just holds the thing. avi is a container, XviD is a format, mpeg is BOTH a container and format (you cannot have XviD or other formats in it therefore, since you need a format, it must be both), rm is both (along with ra) and wmv is both (along with wma).

umm...MPEG is a container. It can hold MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video, which each have a different set of rules that go with the respective "codec"

AVI is not a format, neither is MPEG.

MPEG = Video and Audio Streams Container (MPEG-1 + MPEG Layer II Audio)
AVI = Video and Audio Streams Container (XviD or a number of codecs + LAME or a number of audio codecs)
that may be , but RM sucks balls .
argue that.
The only problem with people using RMs is that they almost always render them out in a low birate. When ever I render using RMs I render at atleast 1000 kbps. Thats not too far from most mpegs. Anyways just wanted to say that.

I have no idea how to do that, I've only just started making AMVs, I don't even know how to put effects on them yet :?

You can only put effects in them if it's Adobe Premiere, or something that doesn't give a bad name to video editing programs i.e. WMV. Anyway, all I know about effects is the transitions...
