Review: De: Vadasy (Spoilers)

Post by Brolli411 » Sun Jan 12, 2003 7:52 pm

SPOILERS
My first anime review... I feel like such a virgin... And speaking of virgin's...

The facts.

De: Vadasy is about a young boy (I'm guessing around 13), named Kei, and a young girl (about the same age), named Nawoki (Not sure how to spell it).

One day, the two are walking around, skipping school, and just happen to come across someone handing out flyers for something called, "Spirits." Kei is happy to join because they clearly point out that school is optional.
Nawoki joins with him.

This, "Spirits," organization turns out to be a government funded military group. Their goal is to fight off an enemy that has invaded earth. These enemies are nano-based, and are mostly based of what looks like, pink jelly. What this organization has in plan, is intense mental and physical conditioning to prepare the volunteers for fight these creatures. Strangely, there is only one boy at this place, making Kei the lucky guy ( :D ).

The method that are used to fight the creatures, is something called a devedasi (Pronounced, Davadasi). The Devedasis are robotic creatures, that walk on all 4 legs/arms. The story on how they found them is weird, but mostly it was, "We just found them somewhere."

The Devedasi required one male pilot, and one female pilot. This is because the Devedasi runs on sexual energy, which really confuses the pilots, because whenever they piloted, they had the sensation of sex. This leads to many things. Kei seems more sex-crazy. He tried to molest Nawoki, but she fought him off.

Amala, another one of the pilots, also plays a fairly big role in the show. After some of Kei and Nawoki's experiences, Kei went from being paired with Nawoki, to Amala. This leads to some 'late night trips' over to Amala's room... If you catch my drift.

The show drifts away from the main problem of fighting off the enmey creatures for the sexual relations at around the middle. Eventually, Kei and Amala get back to piloting.

The Devedasi, being damaged in an earlier battle (The one that causes Nawoki to stop piloting), goes somewhat 'Berserk.' It starts letting off high levels of Nano-tech devises, killing everyone around and collecting energy. This energy is to create a child. This child is probably due to it's being run of sexual energy. After the Spirits base self-destructs (the Devedasi is protected), and a memory/premonition of Kei's in the cock pit, a new Devedasi is born. And it gets Bizarre.

Inside the cockpit of the new Devedasi, Nawoki is piloting. It seems that Nawoki doesn't know what she is doing, or is rage-powered in getting back at Kei for piloting with Amala (She likes Kei, and with the whole sexual feeling, she doesn't feel right with him and other people in the Devedasi). After a little fighting, and mostly Kei being hurt, he finally attacks. He eventually gets Nawoki to come to her senses, but he finds something inside the new Devedasi.

After ripping a hole in the Devedasi, there is another Kei. Almost like a copy of himself. This would make sense, because he was in the cockpit when it gave birth... And then everyone is happy again! (kind of abrupt, but livable.

Nawoki had special surgery to get rid of the nano-tech in her body, and Kei need some mental help, but other most everything turn out fine. The Japanese kill off the rest of the creatures in the country, and peace is retained.

That was just in a nutshell, so check it out for the full story.

You may have noticed that thought the sum-up, I referred to it as a, "Story." This is because it is like a movie but not. It is a 3 episode series. But each episode flows with the other. And it seems that the episodes are different length than the others. The first is about 30, the second seemed like an hour, and the third, was like 30 min... Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Opinion:

I would rate this series just to be really weird. The emotional plot line is very sturdy, but the overall problem/solution seems to be shaky and spread out. If you like Evangelion, you will probably enjoy this. Though it may only compare in a few areas, such as thing with the Pilot Mentality, out of control robots, and enemies that came from nowhere in outer-space.

Age rating: 16 and up. There is A LOT of nudity. It only clearly shows breasts, but from distance, where nothing is really visible there is more suggested. There are two sex scenes, and one part that suggests sex, but does not show it. And a lot of some of the dialogue is suggestive toward sex.

Overall rating: Ok - Good. A rapist would have a fun time with this video. There are a lot of parts that can only be truly brought out with a good imagination.

Now that I'm done spamming about this anime, what are your comments on it?

Oh, and one thing that I forgot to add. The dubbing just plain SUCKS! Either they are talking, but mouths aren't moving, or their mouth is moving, but no voice.
