I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you could have a number for every person that was six numbers across, and six numbers down...

To expand your explanation of 6 falling short of perfection, 666 could mean an imperfect system of categorizing everybody, could it not? Maybe 666 is a form of technology for every individual person, like one bank for all people, and all forms of currency being the same, and every person having one form of credit... That reminds me of communism.

The biblical stuff that is hijacked and taken literally these days ia all symbolic. Really, the mark of the beast is single, or multiple cooperating entities having control of everything. I could relate this to the Government and it's TIA program here in the USA, or perhaps even the card comapnies or others. The point of the Mark of the Beast is, you have no alternative but us. Good thing we have free enterprise here in the US to keep that happening! And business ethics as well!

When I see the number 666 I conciuosly recognise it as the devils number but it doesn't make me feel anything just like when I see the number 69 or 101. I have some sort of recognition of these numbers but I wont chane anything I do based on them. As for numbers being interesting I strongly agree I have always found patterns relating directly to numbers intriguing.

Well, on a related side note, some people (me sometimes) feel that 13 is a wierd number. Some people say Friday the 13 is a bad day, but remember, that was a Julian (hybrid solar-lunar) calendar! And interestingly:

Number of strings on a traditional koto - 13
Number of socket calls in the BSD stack - 13
Something about anime too - also 13 episodes is half of a season
Core keywords in PLSQL - 13 ?
6th Prime number - 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 (also a universal constant)
13 is a number for an element, as well as other things...

Did any of you see the movie Pi? That movie had this cool Rabi dude who talked about funky number theory in relation to cosmic theory and Hebrew linguistics. Its quit a fun movie, and has lots of other number discussion in it aswell. Its independant, and black and white (full artsy style and all) which kind of enhances its overall wierdness.

I've seen it and my roomie has it on DVD, it was a pretty cool movie, title was a little wierd though seeing as it wasn't about pi, I believe it is actually about the perfect number phi, 1.61.....,

I dont like symbolism. I college classmate and I had this same discussion. He is heavily regilious and I, lets just say am not. One day we were surfing the net looking for 3d designs (we are in a 3d design class) and I came upon a picture of an alien female creature. In the picture there was a female symbol and inside the circle of the symbol was a pentagram (more to the point it was just a star). Now as soon as this jerk off seen this he said that was evil and satanic, hell he even thinks that latin is a satanic language. After he said that we got into an arguement over symbolism of the pentagram. I have the same view point about the number 666, its just a damn number. Hell I have locker number 666, live on 666 spradling avenue and have 6 marks and my left hand right hand and on my chest. Well I guess that makes me the "beast" doesn't it. But back to the point, its just a damn number, nothing more, just like the number 13.
