Hey! So near the beginning of the post that explains the VCAs, release date/eligibility is outlined here:
You can see that the premiere date is determined by when it is uploaded to a streaming service or equivalent. Not when it premieres at an anime convention! Unfortunately, it would be a lot harder to keep up with release dates of videos if the VCAs went by convention premiere dates. Additionally, videos often change from their original versions that appear at anime conventions/similar events. So this is the best way to keep dates consistent.Kireblue wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 7:42 pm
What can compete?
Fandom Music Videos that premiered online in 2025 are eligible to participate in the VCAs (even videos that aren't cataloged on A-M-V.org). Premieres are defined as a video's first upload to either a streaming platform (YouTube, Vimeo, etc) or a catalog site (AMVOrg, AMVNews). Videos that were only uploaded to file-sharing sites like Google Drive or were only made available to watch as a collection of submissions (as opposed to individual uploads) do not count as premieres.
At least it is eligible for VCAs in 2026 though, so you are free to nominate it then!
Hope that helps!
