Tora-Con 2026 AMV Contest - WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

Post by Tora-Con AMV Contest » Sun Jan 11, 2026 10:36 pm

The Tora-Con 2026 AMV Contest is now accepting submission!

Links:
The 2026 contest rules can be viewed here, and the entry form is available here. After you submit the entry form, you will see a link to the video file upload page. Please be sure to select AMV Contest from the available uploaders.

About Tora-Con:
Tora-Con is a college-based anime and Japanese culture convention located at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. Our convention is hosted by the RIT Anime Club and the staff is comprised mostly of students (but some alumni also help). Tora-Con usually draws close to 3,000 attendees per year and has be held annually since 2005 (excepting 2020, of course).

Please Note:
RIT takes Tora-Con's status as a "family-friendly" event very seriously. Our contest rules are, as a result, some of the most draconian that I have personally come across when it comes to "objectionable content". This tends to spark irritation among editors who subsequently have their videos rejected from the contest. Any outright nudity is completely off limits, and in many cases implied nudity may also be inadmissible depending on the context. Any sexual or risqué depictions of minors, or characters who can reasonably be assumed to be minors (I am looking at you, 500-year-old loli vampires), will also result in disqualification. If the video you were thinking of sending in has these elements, please consider submitting a different qualifying video OR censoring your video a bit (either by literally adding censor elements to the video, or by replacing specific clips with something else).

Additionally, our rules specify that entries should not have won more than one other contest at the time of entry. The purpose of this is two-fold: Historically, Tora-Con has attempted to promote lesser-known editors. But also, this helps differentiate our contest finalist lineup from those of other conventions held in the Northeast USA.

Contest Deadline:
February 7th, 2026
The contest deadline is coming up fast! I know this is less than a month away. We were initially going to open the contest much earlier--at least a month ago--but there were some internal Tora-Con issues that led to the contest opening being pushed back. The reason we close the contest so early is so that our staff have plenty of time to review submissions for eligibility, vote on finalists, subtitle all finalist videos (this is a requirement of RIT, as RIT also comprises the National Technical Institute of the Deaf), and then assemble the final compilation video that is played during the convention.

I know that is a lot to read through, so if you made it to the end here, thank you for your time, and I hope to see a video from you soon!

Re: Tora-Con 2026 AMV Contest DEADLINE TOMORROW 2/7!

Post by Tora-Con AMV Contest » Fri Feb 06, 2026 5:40 pm

Hello everyone! Thank you for all who submitted something so far. Myself or my assistant have been mostly keeping up with reviewing videos and I am trying to catch up on emailing people regarding acceptances/rejections. I am maybe 1/3 of the way through emailing contestants so far.

If you submitted before 2/4, please keep an eye out for an email from me by the end of the weekend. Anyone who submitted after 2/4 might have to wait slightly longer as we have not reviewed your video yet.

Thanks again!

Hello Editors,

Below you will find the full list of finalists for this year, with winners noted in red text. Before that though, I wanted to share some data regarding this year's AMV Contest. This year we had a total of 94 accepted entries, despite the submission window being a bit shorter than normal. This is the highest number of accepted entries we have had since the AMV Contest resumed in 2023 (after being on hiatus from 2020-2022).

At the convention itself, we had a estimated total of 144 audience members across the Saturday and Sunday screenings (based on number of votes received). This is the highest audience turnout we have had since 2023 as well!

And now, without further ado, I present to you the full contest video list and winners:
