Nan Desu Kan is currently accepting AMVs until August 16th, 2025

5 Entries Maximum - Videos released before August 31st, 2024 are not eligible for submission.
Videos do NOT have to be Exclusive! Big Contest, Japan Expo, etc are welcome!
MEPs and Collabs are welcome!
Anyone who submits at least 1 AMV that is not disqualified will get a free AMV badge mailed to them. We ship internationally, just list where we can send it in the "Mailing Address" section of the form.
We accept both GMVs and AMVs!

AMV Overload

What is AMV Overload?
Due to the high number of AMV Contest entries and limited finalist spots, we created 'AMV Overload' — a non-competitive showcase for standout
videos that didn’t make the final cut but still deserve recognition.

What's been going on with Overload the
past couple years?
Simply put, this event hasn’t received the attention or respect it deserves. While I could point to the constant staff transitions across departments as an explanation, the reality is, it doesn’t change the outcome. This event has struggled for years, and that’s simply inexcusable.

What is the plan moving forward?
As of this year, we’ve brought on a dedicated AMV staff member whose sole focus is running Overload, our very own 'Overload Overlord,' if you will. The AMV team has also invested in our own equipment, separate from the main convention’s, giving us almost full control over the technical side. We’re collaborating closely with panel staff to run the room in a way no other viewing panel has before. Simply put, Overload is basically now fully in our hands.

Anything else?
We want Overload to feel like a true event, because it is! It's a showcase of outstanding work that stands on its own, even outside the main contest. That’s why, starting this year, we’re introducing Honorable Mention awards , selected exclusively from Overload entries.

These awards will be chosen by our judging staff during the anonymous review process. Winning videos will be marked during the event with a special banner or title screen, and winners will also be recognized at the Contest Awards ceremony on Sunday. Awards can be picked up there, and any not claimed will be mailed to their recipients

That’s a quick overview of the situation! We’ll be including more details about the Honorable Mention awards in the letter that comes with the AMV Badges, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

We got a preview of the "Seele of Approval" awards or also known as Honorable Mentions for the AMV Overload entries.


Category finalists will also receive a custom lanyard that the color will vary depending on the category.


AMV badge previews were also shown.
These change every year and are given or mailed out to every editor who submits an entry that is not disqualified.


Reminder: You can submit up to 5 entries. AMVs and GMVs are both accepted.

I have a video with Summit of the Gods, which is a French-made movie but also an adaptation of a popular Japanese manga. Would this count or not, since it's not "Japanese animation" but is of Japanese origin?

Looks like Rule #4 answers your question:

4. If your video is not a VGA or original animation, it must primarily focus on Japanese anime or manga. While we recognize that the definition of “anime” can be broad, for this contest, we specifically require content animated or produced in Japan. Therefore, series such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, RWBY, Castlevania, and anime made in China or Korea do not qualify and will be disqualified.

Yes, the deadline is the absolute latest we can offer for any new/revised video entries.
Due to how close the deadline is to the con and the preparations needed after, we cannot offer any extensions.

This year we had an absolutely incredible turnout with over 300+ entries from all over the world. We are absolutely blown away by the love and support shown and really can't thank you enough.

That being said, there is only 1 Main Contest and 1 Overload Event, which means that not all videos can be shown over the course of next weekend. You have no idea how hard judging was this year as this wasn't just a case of pure quantity but quality. Even after going through the lists over and over again, I can't help but feel both sad and excited. Excited because the line up for both events are absolutely phenomenal but sad because I know how many other amazing videos I'd love to see showcased alongside what we have. Basically, we're drowning in top tier AMVs and there literally isn't enough time to play them all.

That all being said, let's move on to what I know you're all waiting to find out...

If your name is not on either of those lists, or perhaps you're not on the list you were hoping for, I'm so sorry As an editor myself please know I've been in your shoes many, many times. This does not mean you are lesser and this does not mean you are a bad editor. We know that Nan Desu Kan can be an incredibly tough contest to get into, but we don't ever want to discourage you from trying. Please know that we see you, we want you to succeed, and every time you climb that ladder and get closer we are hyped as hell for you. Pretty sure that's the correct terminology, at least. So if this wasn't your year, then we can't wait to see you make next year, your year.
