Long form AMV contests?

Post by kim_I_am » Tue May 13, 2025 10:35 am

First I want to acknowledge that I understand perfectly well why most AMV contests have a hard limit for length, usually 5 mins. If you're going to have to sift through thousands of entries you need a limit just to make it possible, but all the songs I'm planning on working with usually come out to just past 5 mins up to 7 mins, and I'm not going to stop because it's fun. I was just wondering if there were any contests with a focus on longer dramatic or storytelling vids so I can try try cutting my teeth. :shark:

Generally, these AMV contests are held at conventions, where they are given limited time to showcase all the entries. So the like 5 min max is a balance measure to ensure that they can showcase more videos.

I do know that Nekokitkat is running a casual competition geared towards longer videos. As for those without a max limit, off the top of my head Anime Weekend Atlanta and Youmacon might be worth checking out.

You can enter NekoCon's but after the 5min 30sec mark, the video may be judged a bit more harshly.
