People's low standarts for AMV

Post by alcea » Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:13 am

So it seems nowadays all you need to do is:
1) Pick highbeat or derpy song (Bonuspoints if Linkinpark)
2) Choose insanely popular/concurrent Anime
3) Gobble together scenes however you wish. (Quality ? Pscht. Get outta here. We want to churn out one a day !!111)
Don't even bother removing subtitles or matching the scenes to the song.
Noone will notice random text.
(Lipsync ? Nahhhh ! Too much work.)
=>
Yay people like this AMV !

...
•Or just scenes from random shows cut together with insane masking and 100+ workhours put in.
Just for the flex.
•How about we add random sfx and voices to break the immersion.
Flip the song. We want confusion |:>
Ppl love sequence breaks !!

Jokes aside:
Is this normal ?
I see noone ever attemping lipsyncs in AMVs ever (unless comedy)

And Subtitles ?
Isn't this like a cardinal SIN of AMVs ?
And ppl are like "Mkay. :awesome: " ?

SFX Gallore: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TCxycviyn2U (some match the beat.. But is *peng peng* really what we want ?)

Only thing I can say is:
Wat  ?!
Did decades of LinkinPark and Emo AMVs fry ppls brains n expectations SO hard they can't see quality
anymore ?
(And yes, "taste" is subjective, but c'mon!)

We saw the same complaints back in 98...

As access to editing technology gets easier more people try and thus there is more "dirt" to dig through before you find the diamonds.

It's a debate that never ends.

I also feel like survivorship bias for the videos from wherever you're yearning for. Especially the Linkin Park comment calls back to the complaints I saw in my youth [benafflecksmoking.png] There are always going to be people making the videos you like, and there are always going to be people making the videos they like! No reason to complain about hobbyists doing cheerful hobby things. Hope you find more videos of the type you enjoy.

I saw an AMV on YT that had 'activate windows' on the bottom right of the footage. That was a low point for me.

I think it would be frowned upon to post examples of bad AMVs just for the purpose of ripping into them or making fun or them or whatever.

But it's been a while since I've actually watched anything that's unforgivably technically flawed and hopelessly cliched and a part of me is genuinely curious how a truly modern example of that kind of AMV might compare to a similar one from 15 years ago.

If there was any kind of remotely accurate "most used music in AMVs made in 2025" list, I'd be surprised to see Linkin Park anywhere even near the top 20.

i'm pretty sure everyone is higher res now than vhs or divx logos or whatever the sign was for bad back in the day. The only true cringe is spite videos. Case in point one video i saw super late at AWA one year in the 2000s was titled they already won to X1999 showing tons of death and destruction then was dedicated to the soldiers in the Iraq war going on at the time. What people even on the ameture level can do blows away what 2 vcrs ever could. Reminder that because of tapes being subbed or not there were videos that had subs at the bottom. No one is going to have that issue.

Petty high school politics spite is what the community is powered by so if anything that's the mark of a Pro AMV editors not the newbies who do the hobby out of love/fun.

Well. I sinned a lot , tbh if you have fun doing it it's ok. Probably won't get far in a contest popularity or anything but you can't stop it anyway. I did some of those "intentionally".

This was a request from a pen/chat friend so i did it long ago.
Still better than that MMO.
