Best First Video
"No Matter What" by Clueless Spirit

It's been quite a few years since the "Best First Video" category was removed from the VCAs, but I want to acknowledge a video that would have fit this category perfectly. While I chose not to add it to my nominations this year, I think it came out great and I'm really proud of him! I know this editor personally and was so excited for him to make his very first AMV. |:>

Trailer Considerations

"The Witch of the Undercity" by AceDigitalX

This trailer is so incredibly well-edited and thought-out. It reconceptualizes "The Reckoning", a story about an innocent woman being accused of witchcraft after her husband commits suicide, and combines it with Arcane to portray Jinx as the actual threat to society that she is. In the original trailer, you can see that the movie presents the Salem witch hunt as a threat that the main character must overcome, but Ace's AMV completely changes that and shows that society is right to fear Jinx and that she really did "sell her soul to the devil" (by partnering with Silco).

"The Owl Hotel" by ProTeamDirector

What a crossover! This trailer takes the wholesome visuals of "The Owl House" and combines it with the depravity of "Hazbin Hotel". But despite the huge difference between the 2 media, the character assignments feel absolutely perfect and make so much sense. The Collector being voiced by Alastor and Hunter voiced by Adam just makes you smile because you know that if things were different in The Owl House, they totally would have become the worse version of themselves.

Multi-Source
Burn For You by Arrow

Centering a multi-source around a singular motif is a great way to help organize and structure the vid, and I really like how Arrow utilizes and reinterprets some of anime's most fiery sources. The pacing and flow of this video really lets you appreciate both the unique and varied sources he pulls from and the gorgeous compositions that smoothly bridges them all together. There are a lot of different emotions evoked by the flame imagery, from anger to joy. It keeps the vid fresh and exciting, and yet none of these disparate tones overpower or distract from the rest. These are the types of strengths that really only come from utilizing multiple sources, and so I really like the idea of celebrating that particular aspect of it.

Action
SLUGFEST by DanParthenis

I love an action video that is just what this claims to be - A SLUGFEST! As an Ippo fan I was delighted to find this made it to semi-finals and I wanna make sure people give it the due for just being a great sports video with simple and honest storytelling that just hypes up the BOXING of it all.

I was fortunate enough to see this one from Clueless themselves at Momocon last year!! They were SO EXCITED to show it off at the editors social and it was such a beautiful piece of art, I was so surprised by the pairing! Loved every minute of this!!! |:>

Romance
"Love Travel" by PikaPika

I am here to bring eyes on one of my favorite romance videos of all time. Josee the Tiger and the Fish was already such a cute story, but the creator was able to craft a brand new story between the two main characters to be about a boy taking someone with a disability around the world and sharing memories together. Even though the song is in a foreign language, the plot never feels lost on me and I can follow these characters storylines very well. It's something I wish I thought of, but I'm glad someone else did an ambitious idea like this justice. Also this was done in only a couple of days? That's just insane to me. Please take a watch because I can only do so much to share this video.

Blazing Wild Hearts by Silk

I'd like to thank everyone that voted for my Amor ex Machina video, but Blazing Wild Hearts got ROBBED >:| ESPECIALLY in the Special Effects category where (I feel like) my video doesn't really belong (I swear there were very minimal vfx used)
But after I thought about it for a second, I think the reason Silk's vfx work got overlooked might be from just how good he got the added effects to look so native to the source. I know this first hand since both our videos competed in the AWA Accolades last year, and I remember Silk's vfx work fooling a lot of people into thinking it was native. THATS HOW GOOD THIS VIDEO IS

Again, I'm not trying to come off as being unappreciative or mad about making semifinalists, just wanted to make people aware of this amazing video :bzz2:

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I think it's nice to have one of those unsung masterpieces under my belt. The video came out exactly how I wanted and I wouldn't change a thing about it. It was never destined to compete well I guess.

For peps who did make it I really adore Speedy's edit for Death by 1000 Match Cuts in Multisource! I am horrendous at editing action so to see this edit do so flawlessly is wonderful.

Complicated Muse also made a fantastic edit that I still go back and watch!

Sing's edit in shorts is just *chef kiss* with typography and fast paced editing.

As for edits that I wished had another chance is def is The Code! I swear I go back and re-watch this edit a bajillion times. A bit sad it didn't make it through shorts >.< The use of black and white to colors it to die for.
