What do you look for ?

Post by MAS PRODUCTIONS » Mon Jan 06, 2003 10:25 am

Before you download a video what do you look for?

Do you first look at who created the video?
Do you look at the anime choice(s)?
Do you look at the musical choice(s)?
How about how many opinions it might have?

I usually look in this order:
Creator
Song
Anime

So how about you, what do you look for in an AMV before you donwload it?
"What about us lesbians? . . . Your gonna burn in hell of course!" - MXC
"Hey dont knock masturbation, its sex with someone I love!" -- Woody Allen
"Evil will always triumph 'cuz good is dumb!" - Dark Helmet

Look

Post by anneke » Mon Jan 06, 2003 11:18 am

I look first usually to see what people have done with the same group of music I've used. Then I'll look at random anime or music that I like, and see if there is any strange combination that catchs my eye. Then I'll check for the recent videos that have links, and see if anything is unique and catchs my eye. Last I'll go to the forums and see what people are pushing.

Song
then Anime

So far, I have yet to prejudge or select for creator alone. I do read the profile of the video though. If it says 'I spent like 5 minutes...or this was just for fun it's not very good' then I avoid it like the plague. Creator of a vid means nothing to me.

and other people's opinions...I don't even pay attention to those unless the amv looks ripped off

But I typically won't download anything using a song I hate unless I have been told it's a good download. I do see a lot of amvs this way (cable connection and all) but I do tend to get a lot of boring amvs.

My order

Anime
Creator

I look at anime first, since my personal favorite type of AMVs are the kind that can really convey a sense of what the anime is like to get others interested in that particular series.

After reviewing 100 or so videos, I've found there are a few creators whose video I do seem to rather enjoy more than most for various reasons. If they announce a new AMV, I will be slightly more inclined to check it out.

I hardly ever even look at the song, since the musical genre I'm most into is Japanese Rock and Pop. And most modern "American" music I'll only recognize if I heard it mentioned or played somewhere else. I also find that you can appreciate and enjoy "oldies" and "foreign" music more in AMVs if you aren't limited to specific types of songs that you personally like.

I look for things familiar to me.

Creator
Song
Anime

If its a creator I know and am a fan of, I'll download any and everything they make just to see. If I don't know the creator, I'll brose his videos looking for any song or band that I know of and I'll download those first. Or if its a favorite anime of mine I'll just download that to see what they did with some of my favorite shows.

I look for a Meatwad avatar.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

I look at anime, then the music (Song then group). I make note of the anime/songs that I know will cause problems in my house hold with younger sibblings. Then I look for the studios. There are only a couple that I'd recodnise, Aluminum Studios, Smoothe Studios, and Griffin Studios being the three I can think of off the top of my head. I also know what they lean towards. That makes it easier. On occasion I'll download one just because the anime or song sounds intersting.
