Recession
I believe that Animemusicvideos.org is in an AMV recession. No videos are being produced has of late because of all the multi-editor Projects going around. Because of these project nobody has time to make any of there own videos cause we get so tied up in everything else. Also everybody is hyped about Golden Donut, if its free hosting then make some videos to host, sure you already have some but we've seen them already. Another thing is nowaday people are all about effects and quick cuts, what happened to the days of simple editing. With all these effects heavy AMVs going around editors wanna do "that" and take longer to produce an AMV. So then there are no AMVs. I think people need to go back to the basics. Well thats my opinion anyway.

Heh.
I'm working on one project right now, but once I get my 180GB HD, XFS 1.2_Final comes out, and I install KDE/Fluxbox for Linux, I'll be working on two or three or four.
Deluxe Bebop REMASTERED (Going to be submitting to AWA9 Expo)
NES Project 2003 (NES Project)
School House Rock (SCH Project)
That project you started (Albuquerque or whatever the song is)
Deluxe Bebop in Windows with Premiere, rest in Linux with Cinelerra and the acomping tools.

I'm almost done with my DDR track. Then I have to get to work on my NES track. Once I finish my NES track, THEN I'll have time to work on my actual personal videos
Which, if the Golden Donut works out, I'll be able to share with everyone finally.
SUPPORT THE DONUT!!! As soon as I get my pay check, I'm pledging and sending a money order! YOU ALL SHOULD, TOO!

I'm currently working on encoding a video I just finished. I don't know what everyone else is doing...
I kind of agree that everyone is going crazy with effects. I am too. After working on this project that had quite a bit of frame-by-frame work and other digital effects for three months, I feel very ready to go back to simplicity. I want to go back to making videos that take three weeks rather than three months. To me, editing stops being as fun after working on a project too long.

Hell, I sent in money to the donut (not much, $10, but every little bit helps, right?), and I'm practically broke! My GI bill money from December hasn't come in yet, and I have $13 in my checking account at this moment. And I STILL gave money to the Donut!! If I can, you all fucking definitely can!!

I think that if there is an AMV recession, it's because people are either working on projects right now, or they haven't found time. Don't forget, this is a hobby. We can't all devote every waking moment to it. Hell, I've been spending the last few weeks gathering source in my spare time. I hate source gathering, especially with the utterly masochistic way I've decided to do it from now on, and it's going really slowly because I have to physically MAKE myself do it. To give you an idea, I have just finished making 140 D2V projects, each with an AVS script that I will import into Virtualdub and encode 140 HuffYuv clips to use as source. I can't use the AVS' directly, because I do not have the virtual memory for it. The first 30 clips are useable, the rest only show as a greenscreen due to lack of memory. I am hoping that making them all HuffYuv clips will be more memory friendly.
And I haven't even begun actual work on my DDR video yet. I'm still planning it out. I'll probably start cutting footage as I work on this other one.
All of this is when I can make myself go through the drudgery of source gathering. I loathe source gathering. LOOOOOOOOOOATHE!
But, yeah, if there's an AMV recession, it probably means that there is a flood of AMVs ready to burst in Spring, when the cons all start up again.

I think it's more of people either making the videos for this year's cons (most people don't release their videos for the various cons until they first premiere there) taking the brief break between seasons. The videos I sent to Ohayocon were mine from last year. Though it is in January, I consider it part of the 2002 amv 'season' if you will. And my 80's video for Tommy Rude's contest may go to a con or two, but likely won't be available for download for about 3 months.
This is the season of conception...the actual birth is later in the year.

Re: Recession
Rock on simple editing! We don't need effect to make our vids cool, cuz they JUST ARE!mexicanjunior wrote:I've been stuck in simple editing mode for a long time. The Non-Professional wrote: Another thing is nowaday people are all about effects and quick cuts, what happened to the days of simple editing.

ANd PLEASE don't anyone take offense at that. I am not saying effects vids suck, I am just joking, ok? Look at it this way... My NES project vid will probably have special effects, and my DDR video already has some nifty stuff in it, and I might add more depending on how the encode (which is going as I type this) turns out. (Right now I am thinking that I'll only put gratuitous special effects in my DDR vid if it seems too uninteresting without them... after all, the song I got is slow, so it's hard to make a dancy video to such a slow song...)
