Best shojo fantasy I've seen by far. This show is a rare breed among its own genre because it focuses more on the story than the romance. What's makes Yona of the Dawn so compelling is the excellent setup of the conflict followed by well written characters. The main protagonist herself, Yona, starts off as a bratty sheltered princess who develops into a strong, empathetic character who wants to hold her own without relying too much on her party members. As for the antagonist, Suu-won is a very interesting one where he may seem like one of those one sided villains at first but the show puts a lot of emphasis on his character making him impossible to hate. The main conflict here is Suu-won was Yona's first love, however that was shattered when he kills her father. As further you get into the show, it becomes understandable why he did it. The show does a great job putting things into a gray area. There's no one that's truly evil (except for one guy near the end).
Unfortunately, the ending is left completely open due to the fact that the manga is still ongoing which I have to wonder if the studio adapted the anime knowing with season 2 in mind. As of now, there has been no announcement of a 2nd season. It'd be so cruel if there wasn't. Other than that, if you enjoyed shows like Fushigi Yuugi, Ceres The Celestial Legend, and The World is Still Beautiful, then Yona of the Dawn is a must watch. Is this a reverse harem? Yes and no. I do have to warn you though, the show is slow within the first 5 eps, but it's necessary in order to build up the world and characters.
