'K'...I did further diggin' and it looks like the acronym thing is probably totally false, so disregard my earlier commentary on it...
The below link is to a rather well put toghter discussion of the history of the F word and the various attempt to define its origins. Check it out.

Re: Gangs of New York...
I'm sorry if you thought the plot was that bad, but it's how it happened on real life. If you don't like historical fiction, you wouldn't like the movie. I feel like I'm the only person who knows that the Irish mob came before the Italians in America.KungPaoChicken wrote:...has got to be the lamest piece of trash I've seen in my entire life. Picture books have more plot than this incoherent, unfocused piece of crap. If you want to watch the movie, don't.
Also, what happened DOES matter. It's obvious that if all of you forgot about it, than you should see it. Everyone is full of distorted ideas of how New York was such a great place back then, but the truth is, it was a big cluster of ghettos, some rich and some poor. In the poorer ones, people were succumbing to disease, they dumped their waste onto the streets, and it was overall pretty bad. It was natural that a mob would rise. When you're that far down the ladder, crime is the free ticket to being on top.
Besides the fact that your name has the words "Kung Pao" in it, I'm sure you have a pretty bad taste in movies. Right now, I see you as one of those immature college guys who like movies like Down To Earth and Eight Crazy Nights. If you couldn't stand to learn a little, you should of went to see something else.

It's great that you like to jump to conclusions, really; but people usually save the personal attacks for when they have nothing constructive to say... oh wait... nevermind.Double O Ninety wrote:I'm sorry if you thought the plot was that bad, but it's how it happened on real life. If anything, I think historical fiction is great. Catch Me If You Can is an excellent movie. But I guess that according to you, since I have no taste, then I wouldn't like that movie either, right?
In the context of the movie, it was true that the petty gang wars that happened really didn't matter, as Leo's character's voice-overs pointed out. Even as he and his enemy were planning their chivalrous "battle", a bigger political and social war was going on outside. Even at the end, the voice-over told us something to the effect of "forgotten by time".
Please, I could probably dissect the movie and its themes and subthemes quite well. I can even spin it so that it is the best movie that I have ever seen. But you know why I didn't? Because the movie sucked.
Besides watching a movie just for learning's sake, I also try to derive some enjoyment from watching the plot unfurl. There was no plot; nothing of significance. Unless, of course, barely any mentions of P. T. Barnem and Tamany Hall makes you wet your pants.
And the crappiest part of the movie has got to be the fact that we spent hours developing this love-hate relationship, but in the end, it was all just a waste of time, both in the context of the movie, and in the hours of my life that I'm never getting back.
