AFTV set to debut new Rules for our AMV contests. Opinion's?

Post by AnimeFunTV » Sun Sep 22, 2013 10:16 pm

With several years of AMV and PMV contests behind us, we expect 2014 will be a big year for us! Why is that? Well, It marks one year before SWAG Expo, but it will mark the debut of an entirely revamped, much easier to read, and much more flexible rules for our Music Video contests!

So what's the major changes?

ALL Contests that are presented by AFTV will be Sponsored by Southwest Animation & Gaming Expo.

We are proud to have SWAG Expo as our title sponsor for all of our contests we present to conventions.

Multi-editor submissions will now be accepted.

Finally after several years we developed what we think is the proper rules and submission methods for Multi-editors to be apart of our contests.

Video submissions will no longer be just for 'Anime' despite the name 'Anime' Music Videos; any American animations will now be accepted.

We have noticed through several contests that there have been a mix of both 'Anime' and american animations so we made it much easier and give editors have much more resources and creative freedom in their videos by not limiting them to just 'Anime'. Our contest will go by 'Animated' Music Videos and still use the acronym "AMV"

4 New Sub-Categorys

Below the 4 Main-Categorys of Action, Drama, Comedy/Song, and Comedy/Freestyle. We have developed 4 more sub-categoys for your video submissions. This is essentially your, Beginner, Moderate, and Expert Categories. This also includes Machinima.

Generic Video - Video that contains source footage from an animation with little, to no special effects.
Edited Video - Video that contains source footage alongside special effects that is created by the Editor.
Created Video - Do you animate your own stuff? We will accept those too! Video that contains some, to little source footage, and is at least 80% self created by animation software.
Machinima - Video that contains scripted or real-time gaming to create a cinematic production that is generated by the video creator.

Opening Titles & Ending Credits will now have to be mandatory.

We know they're art thefts and even some video thefts. In oder to combat that, we would have to require that each video submission to at least have opening or ending credits in their video submissions.

New Rules are set to debut soon with a new convention added to our list for 2014 and it would something entirely different and unexpected!

We would like to know what you guys think as we look towards the future!

Hmm... This is just my opinion, but I'm not sure what good requiring credits does to exclude theft in the contest. Anyone can easily slap a set of credits onto a video that isn't theirs claiming that it is. If anything, I've seen a few posts around here for other contests where editors and some coordinators feel that requiring credits just creates problems. Since many contests tend to have rules that you NOT have bumpers/credits, it's a bit of a hassle to add them for a lot of potential competitors...

Believe me, as someone who saw a serious case of AMV theft in a large-scale contest just this year, I know it's a problem and I hate to see it happening. I'm just not sure that adding credits is the answer...

First, learn to spell. Second, every time you misuse an apostrophe, God kills a kitten. Please, won't you think of the kittens?

I happen to agree with Tsu!'s opinion here. Granted, in the grand scheme of themes, I don't really care too much if someone swiped my AMV, since AMVs are in that grey area between legal and illegal. But all opening credits and ending credits does is that it just makes the video that much longer for parts that quite frankly I really don't care about (ESPECIALLY opening credits). End credits are OK if they're treated like omake (see my "Ichiban Kenichi" for an example), but I'd never put end credits into a contest entry especially if the contest disallows them.

I am more than willing to admit that I've killed many kittens. (not really, but you get the point) I'm know my grammar and Punctuation isn't the best, as a matter of fact i can admit that its pretty poor to sad at times. D:

Anyway, going back to point. We know other contests require that credits shouldn't be allowed and such, but our thoughts are if you are proud of your work and creativity we don't think it should be much trouble to add a opening or closing credits where credit is due. As it stands opening and closing credits are only optional with the old rules and thankfully we haven't had any major cases of AMV theft. I know we have had our share of AMV's that steal footage from other AMV's and claim as their own.

We can just as easily revert back to where opening or closing credits are optional if we get more feedback on it.

Edit: BTW, by opening and closing credits we also mean simplicity.

A simple...

(Anime Name)
(Artist - Song)
(Editor's Handle)

ie.

Attack On Titan
Disturbed - Indestructible
DudeiCreateAMV's

...would work before and after.

Of course using custom intros or outtros would be okay too.

So, like a title card? Like the kind every other contest coordinator accepts as part of their job to put up anyways?

You could say that. I have yet to really find any type of uniform rules for credits among contests; they vary from not allowed to required. Some contests require no credits because the coordinators they make their own credits for the AMV's. Its just really broad.

I guess it also depends if we want to go that route in which we require no credits and we make our own too. It takes more time to do that but it is possible. We would just have to end the contests a little sooner so we can have time to incorporate them into the videos.

Again, many possibilities but we have to choose one looking forward.
