well no the audio and video are decoded separately but a messed up video decode could throw the audio off. Decoding errors can come from a bad encode or a bad decoder

OK, I gots more weirdness. I just did 2 XVID encodes with the EXACT SAME parameters EXCEPT FOR ONE: the audio was compressed while being combined with the video in one, and it was not compressed in the other. The one in which the audio was not compressed worked. WHy on EARTH is this?

anyway, thanks a LOT for you guys' help. It means a lot to me. This is just odd. I KNOW it's something I'm doing...probably a very, very basic step I'm leaving out. I just wonder what it is.

What are you compressing the audio to ?

Are you using the LAME MP3 ACM codec ?

and I'm thinking that maybe I'm just entering the incorrect setting for my audio. I"m going to try to see if I can find the right one.

Well :O

So long as you don't change anything other then the compression settings you should be fine...

I trust you're exporting @ 44.1Khz 16bit stereo from Premiere?

Also encoding @ 44.1Khz Stereo 128Kbits or greater bitrate ?

I was exporting @ 48 Khz from Premiere...but that shouldn't create any problems, should it?

Well what's your source audio in ?

If it's off a DVD then most likely 48Khz is fine...

CDs are usaully(I think always, the spec for CD audio is 44.1Khz... I swear!! I think  ) 44.1Khz :\ So if you're using a CD rip or mp3, then you don't want to be exporting @ 48khz..

Well, here's the problem: I have two types of audio source. The first is a song that I downloaded, and it's 44.1 KHZ. HOWEVER, I also used audio from my camcorder, which records at 48 KHZ. I exported from Premiere at 48 KHZ. I"m now trying 44.1 KHZ to see if that'll work.
