You obviously must be concentrating on something else right now. Cause you sure aren't concentrating on your spelling or grammar.

I like the Cowboy Bebop dub. David Lucas is my God.

personally I like to watch DBZ with either subs or dubs , just as long as the TV is off.

as for other anime, I shudder at the thought of BErserk dubbed. It just would be wrong. hearing gatsu scream "GRIIIIFFIIITTHHHH!!!" in english just would not be the same.

The only dub that I have been disappointed with would have to be FLCL. They took the life out of everyone. Thank god for DVD's so I can watch the subs.

I've watched some of Outlaw Star yesterday and the dubbing seemed fine to me. I'm liking Outlaw Star a lot. I've just watched the first 2 episodes so far, can't wait to see what happens next.

As anime is going to be on 2 american channels soon (well, the Anime Network doesn't have a real date yet) I am assuming dubs are going to become quite popular.

I like the original versions because they are almost always done better ESPECIALLY when it comes to drama. There are always exceptions and there are even dubs I prefer to the originals that aren't...quite as good. But, it wasn't because I saw the dub first, I just really liked them.

I have heard crappy japanese acting. My biggest example is the Princess Rogue anime series. In the japanese version, they all sound like method actors who are causing themselves bodily harm to do the dramatic scenes. If it wasn't so bad, it'd be funny.

So not even all the anime series (subbed) are good to begin with. Of course, I also don't like everything that is 'anime' just because it comes out of Japan. I guess I should resign my anime fan status if I don't fawn over every series

The majority of dubbing jobs just make me think 'Lowest Bidder'. Cheap and quick. The Fushigi Yuugi Eikoden dvd had english and japanese dialogue as default. The emporer in english sounded like he was reading the script for the first time and they took that one take. It was bad. Most dubbings sound like that right now. That is why there is such a big deal about it I think. But if they keep getting more popular, maybe companies will have more money to work with, get higher standards, and then the only reason I will have is just because I like to hear the Japanese version anyway. Until then, dub/sub wars will continue.

I'm a dub fan, though from what I can see, 40% of the dubs out there are "decent"

[as in not bad, but not good]

60% kind of suck...

However, of the 40% that are decent or above, about 15% are SUPERIOR to their sub counterparts...

My examples:

ADV Films [practically everything they've done past Eva]
Media Blasters [Ex-Driver comes to my mind]
Pioneer [they're va's move to Media Blaster's studios from time to time]
"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

Dub can suck to the point of you wanting to take an otherwise perfectly good anime, puking up your dinner on it and then carefully wrapping it up and sending it back to the bastard, no talent, moron who let it hit the market that way.
Some dub is decent and allows you to enjoy an anime without having to read it.....but it's risky. Sometimes a lot is lost in the dubbing and/or the voices are totally hideous and throw you off.

The absolute worst dubbing job I've ever seen is Kenshin. In Japanese every voice was just perfect, they created a great atmosphere but when I heard the dub version I had the sudden urge to kill the person responsible. They changed the names and everything. I'm still in shock.

However Ranma was an excellent dub, better than the japanese version which makes them all sound like they're 40. It's a pity that they changed Ranma's original voice half way through though.

I just don't think that American dubbing can for the most part compare to the original. Most of the time what the characters say would sound stupid in english. Japanese actors can be more seductive, make a scream more blood curdling or make you piss yourself with laughter. Plus you get to learn bits and pieces of the language which you can impress your friends with, especially the curse words.

Totally agree. Others fitting this category would have be Sanosuke during the Shishio thing, Kaoru saying 'Kenshin' because you can't replace that and Alucard when he's mocking someone. Actually you couldn't better anyones voice in Kenshin, definately not Kenshin himself anyway(or Saitou or Hiko or Yahiko)

Anyone else like to add to the list?
