We got new registers at work. They run faster, but the new keyboards are awkward. There's also a touchpad mouse sticking out of the front of each keyboard; it's completely pointless and annoying.

When people make a huge deal out of going somewhere alone.
"Omg, you're going by yourself??" I didn't realize I had to have plans with someone if I wanted to go somewhere. Because apparently if I don't, I'm a total loser with no friends!
Seriously, if some people can't even go a place a few blocks away by themselves, then I'm not the sad one here.

I hate when people suddenly think they're SUPER HARDCORE MECHA EXPERTS after watching Code Geass. There's a lot more to mecha than Super Robots trying too hard to be Real Robots, people. That being said, there's a similar phenomenon involving Gurren Lagann fanboys. Now, I don't hate these shows, but this seems eerily similar to how some people think they know everything about first person shooters just because they played some Call of Duty at Gamestop.

Wait, I'm confused a bit. Are there people out there that actually become experts on Mecha types from anime? I'm assuming like Gundam shows?HaarTheDragonlord wrote:I hate when people suddenly think they're SUPER HARDCORE MECHA EXPERTS after watching Code Geass. Wasting my money on a boring book about rich teenage girls and handsome guys kissing and having sex, like Pretty Little Liars. I have a feeling that the author wanted to show off with how many fashion designers and brands she knows.

"Experts" in the sense that they're hyper-specialized trivia buffs.CodeZTM wrote:Wait, I'm confused a bit. Are there people out there that actually become experts on Mecha types from anime? On a somewhat related, and more on-topic, note - I really hate the false equivalence that seems to have developed between the concepts of "learning" and "cramming data."

Yes, these types of people exist in some parts of the interent. And no, these people usually look at Gundam as an "entry-tier" metaseries and mostly praise stuff that pretty much no one has ever heard of. (The Brave Series, Ideon, Raideen, et cetera.)CodeZTM wrote:Wait, I'm confused a bit. Are there people out there that actually become experts on Mecha types from anime? There's a difference? Isn't it all really the same thing in the end if you don't plan on using any of this data IRL?BasharOfTheAges wrote:On a somewhat related, and more on-topic, note - I really hate the false equivalence that seems to have developed between the concepts of "learning" and "cramming data."

Learning is about understanding core concepts so that you can solve a problem (or, at least make use of pattern recognition to make educated guesses about possible paths to take) by deconstructing it, not memorizing shit so you can regurgitate it.HaarTheDragonlord wrote:There's a difference?
