Hmmm, Spirited Away is coming to Laramie in March and we are back of beyond, so it is slowly trickling out.

However, I suspect Disney is waiting for the Oscar hype to really begin, and for live action competition like Harry Potter and LOTR to start to fade before it tries to give the movie a push into wider distribution.

Down in LA Spirited Away wasnt treated that bad. It got like a 2 week run at the Egyptian and played in some bigger theaters too for a couple weeks. The movie actually grossed a couple million dollars only playing at around 100 theaters nation wide, which is pretty damn good. For those who dont know, the Egyptian is a really old, but really nice theater(recently upgraded with digital projection, and god damn does it look amazing) that only plays one movie at a time. So for 2 weeks, all you could see there was Spirited Away. Haiyo Miazaki also attended the premire there. Definately more exposure than Princess Mononoke got, not that Disney still couldnt have put more effort into promoting it.

Yes it is. It got my seal of approval, and definately deserves best animated film...

Does anyone know when they plan on releasing Spirited Away on DVD? I want to see this movie, but it hasn't come to theaters near me, since I live in a small town.

Just these few words:

Academy = one with the most hype gets everything (best actor/actress, best music, you name it. damn jewish and white trash)

Animated = kids stuff

Now of course this is the stereotype, and perhaps always will be. Unfortunately for us animated films will ALWAYS be regarded for kids. It's like one of those closed windows that is sealed by paint - it's so hard to open that no one bothers in the industry.
