Yesterday. I go to our Job Corps branch to look into getting in. It's a cold day, which sucked. As I'm leaving to catch the bus, I notice an orange city code violation sticker on my car. "Move it, get your registration tags updated, or we tow it" is pretty much the case. I tell klinky to watch and shoot any towmen who might come by, then I head out.
I get to the Job Corps appointment on time. Early, even. Then the guy I'm supposed to meet with is 30 minutes late. And is rather ditzy. Oh well, could have been worse.
I head back home, prepare for a mad dash to the DMV to get the car in my name (something I'd been putting off because of money issues) since I'll need to do that to get new tags. After the bus I was taking being held up by a train for 30 minutes, I get to the DMV, and of course there's a line.
I finally get a clerk and quickly explain what I need. "Do you have a title?" is the reply. My car has a owner trail (none of whom apparently registered) of 4 people, including me. I don't have anything like that on me, so she says "no title, no luck, find one and come back".
I go out, then realize I forgot to ask her what I need to do if I can't find a title. I go back in, and the line is even longer than the first one I was in.
So I go home, talk to the code enforcement people to see if I can get the tow order taken off, and get a ditzy asshole after going through their phone maze. No, he says, it has to be off the street or we tow it. So after a lot of deliberation, I risk getting into a lot of trouble (no license, expired tags, no insurance, not even registered to me, at night when the police presence is stepped up) and drive the car to my mom's parking lot.
And that was pretty much it.
I'm out...
