TrueStory. Also, I don't find the need to use other sites like the org, amvnews and akross. No need to worry about copyrightRadical_Yue wrote:The org for local hosting (seriously the best website for AMVs ever) or get your own private hosting for indirect/direct through sites like host gator or something. Of course, private hosting costs money while the org is free~ But that's up to you.

we all know how you feel about praiseRadical_Yue wrote:Because the #1 goal of making AMVs is exposure and whoring yourself out. My bad, I forgot that part. God knows I NEED those subscribers who just spent the past hour watching videos of people getting kicked in the nuts and cat videos.
true, but what if you suck? Someone coming to the hobby for the first time and getting 50 views is not as likely to stay if they get a 50 views a month (starting out) and a few comments maybe. You gotta really like the hobby for the hobby to stay without getting any feedback, and at 50 views a month you still have to like the hobby for the hobby somewhat so it's not like the only editors youtube gets that the org doesn't are flat-out attention-whores, the views and comments just serve as motivation (at least at first).AceD wrote:Well that's subject to how good the video is, posting it here will help other websites see it, which in turn means it will get posted up in other communities around the world...embedded on websites...and so forth.
If you only post on youtube that isn't likely to happen unless you have a big channel to back it up

i just think it's hard for this newer generation to find any semblance of a community and feel compelled to interact without the popular video sites' style.

The vast majority of videos on YouTube have a few hundred hits and no comments. In that respect it is very much like this site.gotegenks wrote:you can't really compare this site to something like youtube. Youtube and others gets you constant exposure while this site gives you a single burst of exposure and that's only if you announce it.
There are some differences:
* This site has a single focus. YouTube does not.
* YouTube puts the video in your face. This site does not.
* YouTube's audience is larger. Way larger. Probably at least an order of magnitude larger.
* tuxedomarty hasn't responded to the "why don't you just upload them here?" comment, but I bet YouTube has an in-browser upload process, and I think that has something to do with it.
I think there's a project out there to address some of these differences. Oh, and I think it actually started.

He was asking for a website specifically to use for an indirect link. That means he's already using this site, he just doesn't want to use the local server for whatever reason.gotegenks wrote:i was just saying why i thought he'd want somewhere besides here.

Exactly why I prefer to not upload them to the local server and prefer to host them on an outside site where people can't download them and do that.JudgeHolden wrote:I get exposure because of this site... Almost all the time, though, people will give credit to you and link back to your YouTube or whatever. As long as people are watching my videos, I don't really care who re-uploads it.tuxedomarty wrote:Exactly why I prefer to not upload them to the local server and prefer to host them on an outside site where people can't download them and do that.JudgeHolden wrote:I get exposure because of this site... If you think uploading your vid to another third party source it will be more "safer" you're poorly mistaken. It's not hard at all to rip a video from a website that allows you to view it even without a download link.
You're honestly better off uploading here even if its just to get your video out more cause it doesn't matter, once its on the internet your control is for the most part limited or lost.

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson
