Honestly, if people want the forums to be more active, then they need to POST. Just take 30 minutes out of your week and review a few amvs on the announcment forum. Maybe open up an opinion thread or start up a conversation about some sort of AMV editing theory that you want to discuss.

Its these little things that can really improve our site's active level.

Our total user statistics are stupidly big. I'd venture there are a tens of thousands of abandoned accounts that people made after a con to get videos from that con and then just forgot about, don't have the passwords for, and don't even have a working (or accessible email address) tied to in the database. It happens all over the internets.

Whatever happened to our Japanese users? I remember they used to pop up around VCAs much like the Russians do now, their like taking turns. It's like the mafia rinse cycle.

I want to say those were spam bots. Before that date, the largest number was between 200-300 (at least that's what my memory tells me) and that was back when the org added uploading videos. I remember some time shortly after that date 2005 looking at that and wondering what the hell happened but I really couldn't figure it out then and nothing really points to anything specific now. Even looking back on the forum during those times I can't find anything specific. Nothing on the AMV Mailing list as well. So I'd put my money on spam bots.

This is also saddening:

Amount of videos cataloged each year:

2003: 16467
2004: 29896
2005: 38042
2006: 30343
2007: 16483
2008: 10225
2009: 8013
2010: 5617
2011: 4455

With 203 videos added this year in only 24 / 365 days we're on course for only a bit over 3,000 videos this year :uhoh:

and whenever OT closed up... that was a decision that stunted creativity a little bit.

I hate to tell this, but the OT forums, from the logs (I wasn't here that long time ago), seem to were closed pretty much in 2002/3. So it looks like it has nothing to do with the raise or fall of the videos entered or people on the site.
