I like watching stats and keeping tabs on them. I know I'm not alone in this.

And it is a hassle when I have 2-3 videos I like to keep tabs on, but they have about 5+ uploads a piece with more every now and again.

Edit:
This is just for one video... it's a pain in the butt to keep track of the stats of all of these links (and those are just the ones I could find/that were listed): And that is only on youtube... of course, in the end it doesn't really matter :linkinpark: because once you put something on to the internet, it will spread like a virus... And I've accepted the end result of doing so. Still, I can understand why people don't want others to upload their videos, and it's probably best to ask permission first.

However, I don't get the comments mailed to me, so I tend to miss out on all the "what anime was that at 3:39?" comments. O.o I also don't get to watch as the view count goes up, unless I stalk all 10 of the uploads myself. So I totally can get where someone might come from with them not wanting others to upload their videos, especially if they already run their own account. Also this doesn't always work:
AceD wrote:Getting the recognition is very easy, all the editor has to do is post a comment like "o hai glad you all liked it", and its almost guaranteed people will thumb it up....if the uploader is a nice enough guy he might just respond to the comment so its bumped to the top.
That hasn't worked at all on some of my more popular videos. My "oh hai" comment usually gets drowned in all the comments.
Well it really does depend on the channel uploading it, a big channel with a solid viewership will also have many editors subscribed to it...smaller channels will be fans only. So on the big channels its likely fellow editors will thumb up the editors comment.

In the case on my youtube channel i see this happen all the time, and i know people seek out the person because i often get pms like "thanks for introducing me to xxxx"

See, you can make sure that happens on YOUR channel(s) however, don't make guarantees for every channel :P

Well i did say it depends on the channel size, and if the uploader is a douche or not...am just assuming it happens on other channels since i only watch my own...maybe mine is just unique though :ying:

i mean, if it's a pain in the butt, then just don't do it. just keep in mind your vid's being appreciated by more than just your subs or fans or whatever. do you keep so up to date on even your own uploads? the convenience of having comments sent to your inbox or being able to find out the viewcount faster (or at all) are odd reasons not to want others to up ur stuff.

For the most part, if some random person uploads it, it'll probably only get 500 views over its lifetime. If someone who has a decent amount of subs or are well known uploaders (i.e. Best_ofalltime or heardyoulike_,) they have a pretty broad subscriber base that'll really boost the views, and unless you already have a sizeable chunk of subscribers a bunch of people are going to be introduced to the editor/amv for the first time. They'll be a small amount of subscriber/viewer overlap but it'd be such a small percent that the vast majority will be unique views that your own uploads wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

they could also "like" or "favorite" videos and direct the traffic to the main video

Gote: I don't think they are odd reasons at all. If you do then it's your own problem.

"Posting other peoples videos" isn't always a bad thing. Funny story: 2 years ago, someone uploaded a video of mine on youtube. He even changed the name of my AMV, even though he mentions that i made it (as well as gave the link to my youtube profile). Today, my video happens to be the first on the list when you type "amv" on youtube, with more than 2 million views (Amv- Life is Beautiful, it's real name is "Live"). How can i hate this guy when he's promoting me and made me famous worldwide?? There are already so many commenters that want to meet me! |:>
