I can see someone making a claim that it's maybe a tad arrogant to want recognition at all costs, but not that it's retarted to want that. There is a difference between your work being recognized and you, the creator, being recognised. A lot of people like the whole recognition thing.AceD wrote:I always find it funny when you see a few people say this, the fact is people are watching your video who would otherwise almost certainly never watch it in there life. People don't care because such a way of thinking is completely retarded.

Re: posting other peoples videos
Getting the recognition is very easy, all the editor has to do is post a comment like "o hai glad you all liked it", and its almost guaranteed people will thumb it up....if the uploader is a nice enough guy he might just respond to the comment so its bumped to the top.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I can see someone making a claim that it's maybe a tad arrogant to want recognition at all costs, but not that it's retarted to want that. The "split viewership and losing views you never had in the first place", no matter how i think about it...IS retarded.

Re: posting other peoples videos
I don't mind at all.
Its nice of course when they credit you or put in your links so their viewers can come check out your other work...
But, even when they don't or if they used clips from my AMVs. I don't mind, I laugh instead. My boyfriend gets his AMVs cut up a lot in other peoples AMVs on youtube, and he finds it funny as well and flattering. Its not nice that they are using your "editing" but we don't own the anime, only the "editing". So at the end of the day.. well.. I'd rather drink hot chocolate then hunt someone down for posting my AMVs or using my "edited" clips.

Re: posting other peoples videos
I go ahead and post other ppl's videos on Gametrailers.com if I can't find them on there. I think reposting on a streaming site isn';t the worst thing to do... I mean obviously it's redundant if there's a million of the vid already, but it's SO hard to search on there I think it's cool to put up if a reletively quick search doesn't find the video your posting. As long as you post the link to the original vid and don't take credit for yourself of coarse...

Re: posting other peoples videos
I think its quite annoying when someone takes someones youtube video which is STILL ACTIVE and just uploads it again on their channel. I think I remember reading one of the "content providers" ranting about it "...don't just copy it, change it, edit it, parody it, make a youtube poop or something!"

Re: posting other peoples videos
yeah that's why I don't upload to Youtube btw. I upload gmvs to gametrailers just cuz they had (it was long time ago) expressed the want to see more there.. However this was years ago and now they plant a comercial in between every video (before youtube started to even) plus the uploader is REALLY crappy so I hardly bother now.

Re: posting other peoples videos
I don't mind it. Generally, I find that whenever my videos get uploaded elsewhere I get a spike in subscribers for a little bit from people who care enough to track down the original creator, and I don't think I've really noticed viewership being split too much, and if you've been sending it to conventions and what not, putting those in the tags/descriptions will bring it it to the top of the search compared to the others, since most people forget the names of the AMVs and type stuff like "Madoka AMV Random Con 2011" or something like that anyways. (youtube Insight/Analytics ftw)
But yeah, maybe ask the creators themselves if possible if they'd be ok with it, to be on the safe side.

Re: posting other peoples videos
I just don't post my AMVs to youtube. I use my chanel to post random videos for other purposes or to host my non-amv work. So really, I don't mind when people post my stuff to youtube. There's a lot of my stuff posted to youtube that I wouldn't have expected to be posted considering most people didn't seem to enjoy those vids. But alas someone posted it, credited me, and now a ton of people have seen these videos that wouldn't have.
When I find one, I usually post a comment about being the creator (after all, my youbtube username is the same as my username everywhere else) and I point people to my site if they want to DL a higher quality version to keep for later. I've had a few uploaders private message me hoping I wasn't mad that they posted the video. As long as they don't try to take credit for making it I have no problem with it.

Re: posting other peoples videos
I'm fairly split on the issue, while yeah it's all more exposure, and people can go on about all the exposure it's getting. However, I don't get the comments mailed to me, so I tend to miss out on all the "what anime was that at 3:39?" comments. O.o I also don't get to watch as the view count goes up, unless I stalk all 10 of the uploads myself. So I totally can get where someone might come from with them not wanting others to upload their videos, especially if they already run their own account. Also this doesn't always work:
That hasn't worked at all on some of my more popular videos. My "oh hai" comment usually gets drowned in all the comments.AceD wrote:Getting the recognition is very easy, all the editor has to do is post a comment like "o hai glad you all liked it", and its almost guaranteed people will thumb it up....if the uploader is a nice enough guy he might just respond to the comment so its bumped to the top.

Re: posting other peoples videos
why would you want to watch a viewcount go up? after you find out about an external upload just keep in mind that more people are watching it and enjoy that warm feeling of knowing you've entertained more people.JaddziaDax wrote:I'm fairly split on the issue, while yeah it's all more exposure, and people can go on about all the exposure it's getting. also, is it weird to check on those uploads? i only have 2 important ones, that i check on once every few months for comments and such, and never thought much of it until now
