I honestly have to agree with Bashar on this one, if the video is good, then it's good despite the sources.

Though I also have to admit, I probably wouldn't give it a second glance in an announcement thread or on youtube if someone just gave the the sources, or titled their thread "the best [anime] amv set to the best [song, artist] ever." Now, if you called it something interesting and made a cool poster for your thread, then I might be more inclined to watch it. Advertising :awesome:

I look at originality more based upon the concept the editor created and the way they edited their video. I usually don't turn to the sources to judge originality. Basically I look at originality as creativity. People only look at these overused sources as unoriginal because they've seen them a million times. It's not the editors fault that bunch of others used the same sources. Really what's the difference if two people made an action amv where one had an overused source and one used an underused source. They are basically the same concept if all they were was flat-out action videos. What if on some other distant planet some aliens made amvs, but with completely different animes. Suddenly one day a dvd of Naruto lands on their planet and some random alien editor stumbles upon it. He decides to make a generic action amv from it, and every alien editor thinks he's the god of originality for using a source that's never been used. Was he original at all ? No. He wasn't.

I don't care if a concept/source is original or not, if I like the video then I like the video.

Since it mostly depends on the viewer (some people recognize DBZ as an overused source but haven't seen many DBZ amvs like me for example) I don't honestly think it matters. There are going to be people that claim its unoriginal cause they have seen lots of amvs in the way you have done something and then there could be someone who's seen it for the first time. That doesn't mean you shouldnt try to be creative when possible though.

TLDR: Doesn't matter, do what you want cause you still gonna get what you get.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

There is no over used source only over used ideas at least in my opinion.

I figured this video was relevant to this thread:

I noticed it on the New Vid on the Block a few minutes ago and even though my mind immediate thought it would be one of those "Bleach sexy character slideshow videos", my curiosity got the better of me and I'm glad it did.

Well that was an example of what I mean originally. Although Bleach might be considered overused seems this video was actually fresh for the kind of videos made for Bleach
