Re: I just have to know...
While looking at the forum the OP is from, I found this thread that might explain where he's coming from: http://www.animenation.net/forums/showt ... p?t=241379
The thread and everyone's reactions are pretty funny. I've seen that AMV before, too, but I have NO idea where or how I saw it.

Re: I just have to know...
Only read OP's question, nothing else, so excuse me if it's already been answered this way.
It's very simple. The same people who "a) post their work publicly, b) ask for critical feedback, then c) freak the hell out when you find the tiniest fault with it" are also the ones who post statuses on facebook saying how they're so ugly or so dumb. In other words, they're fishing for compliments. They don't really want criticism. They want people to tell them how good they look and how smart they are and did you see how fucking groovy my color cycling looked in my last AMV?

See, that was the problem with the forums here when I first joined. There is no constructive in that criticism. It's mostly just bashing and being a mild asshole, then saying "Well you can't handle my bluntness". You can be honest and constructive at the same time without coddling. Imho: codling = kissing ass.irriadin wrote:http://www.animenation.net/forums/showt ... p?t=241379
Granted I can't say I was fond of this video myself (dbz and anything not being of my taste) but you guys just told him everything that is wrong with his video, and gave him HARDLY ANY POINTERS ON HOW HE COULD FIX IT. (And this is how an editor can actually have a better opinion than a viewer, because they can have the experience and knowledge to give said pointers.)
If you are going to bash someone's work and not give them a reason to listen to you then you shouldn't be surprised when he drama-queens his way off of your site. Maybe even tell him a couple of good things he did *gasp*, tell him how he can improve and wish him luck on his next project.
I worked hard and long on this site to change the attitudes around here, and I'm glad I did. It's fostered many a good editor that might have run away. Granted many people still hang around with that attitude (you know who you are

How I would review this video: under a spoiler cause it's long.
Spoiler :

[edit] lawl, after re-reading it, maybe I should take my own advice sometimes XD

You have to understand that the whole "thin-skinned AMV drama queen reaction to AN's style of criticism" was already well-established when that thread was made. I'll see if I can find the thread where we finally hit critical mass...
...searches around...
Okay, so they're pretty short threads, started by a guy who was a decent enough sort until he didn't get the reaction he wanted...
Initial Atttempts receive feedback (which precipitate a meltdown): http://www.animenation.net/forums/showt ... p?t=212736
Second Attempt, not much changes (though I gave him credit for tenacity): http://www.animenation.net/forums/showt ... p?t=213628
Third Attempt, where he outright denies having made certain mistakes (which are then screencapped for him): http://www.animenation.net/forums/showt ... p?t=214497
I think that guy was the tipping point for our forum. Every AMV creator after that guy has caught a piece of the forum's residual frustration with him.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS SUBJECT
Now can we just suck it up and get back to our lives? We all know that we are entitled to raze/praise a video. Its a freedom.

From what I'm reading, Leader Desslock, the only person being near mature on those threads is you, and even then your tone is dripping in condescension. You started out decently, and the person was receptive for a bit, but then a couple other people come in and act like asses, and it all goes down hill from there.
I also read comments about stopping the trolling in there. The last thread seems to be nothing but trolling.

Re: I just have to know...
it's not your duty to give the editor ideas. If the editor can't think of any ideas then he just shouldn't edit. most of the time a simple "eh, shit was boring until X bit, 2/5" it's not required or remotely common for people to write essays about someone's video. That's really only necessary if you've got next to nothing good to say about the video and you're desperate to make noobies feel welcome, but if an editor isn't humble enough to accept the criticisms he's given about his first video which MORE than likely sucks ass then why bother writing him a page of critique that's probably more thought-out than their video. just write him a 1 sentence "____was good" and move on. serves the same purpose, but saves you a load of time!JaddziaDax wrote:stuff about sayin nice stuff too and suggestin stuff
