Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
Let see i have less care about seeing new videos and weither any actually sees my vids or not, and i have even less care about seeing that many more vids. The magic feels gone over the 10 plus years of making these things. The only thing thats kept me going is the occasional spark but even that seems farther apart.
I don't care about My Little Pony not saying i hate it just i don't care.
I don't think that thing have improved outside of the tech involved. Though i do not see the past as some golden age i just see it as the same level of crap but at a much smaller level. Now there's just tons of crap out there and i have no idea where to find any vid i will like anymore.
I never really felt like i ever belonged to this community or anywhere else for that matter.
last Given the state of the whole world and what i have had to deal with, this monolog feels closer to myself then id like it to be.
"There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain in constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this there is no catharsis. My punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of my self. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing."

This sort of makes me feel better, because I'm the same way. Granted, I'm really new to editing, but I've read the guides several times over the past year, and I simply don't understand some of the footage cleanup sections. I make my video look as good as I can with the few scripts I understand and hope I can learn more later.CodeZTM wrote:I have this same issue. Despite reading the guides multiple times, I just really don't "see" the stuff that isn't super obvious. Literally, the only thing I really know how to do is deinterlace and sharpen. So I usually hope the beta testers can see it and let me know. ;___;Radical_Yue wrote: - I do not know how to clean footage. Seriously. Absolutely horrible. I usually look around the forum, see what's working for other people and mix an match stuff till I get something that looks alright D: Or if Kisanzi isn't busy, I'll ask him to look it over and make me a script.

Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
I never liked the idea of having any kind of award on this site for "best concept" for all of the reasons this post illustrates. "Concept" is not a universally understood/agreed upon term or even something people can agree has value, so outrageous and nonsensical statements wind up being made which, without Godix around to happily eviscerate, go unrebuffed.dakotasapphire wrote: So an entertaining video can be something made completely effortless that was made just to have a concept? Wth. Real music videos are made without concept. Normally people have a special idea in mind.(No concept) Sometimes they actually go with the song. Why should AMV making be any different? Its not like people want to read your huge long description on what you wanted to do with the concept that everyone probably wouldn't understand. The main point of an AMV is to have entertainment, otherwise, someone can't even watch it. A concept isn't very easy to draw out of things like videos. Therefore, concepts are completely and utterly useless. I don't watch amvs to do homework(like reading a book) and to find concepts. I watch them for their creativity. And you know what? Its not very creative to have a concept you just pulled out of your brain for no reason, and form something boring out of it. A concept can make an amv great. But what I'm trying to say is, there are many great amvs that just got popular because they matched the lyrics and the beat syncs. For example: the This is Halloween amv.
I don't feel like getting into an exhaustive debate in Godix's stead right now, so I'll just say this: I support AMVs of all types which are operating on the basis of some sort of concept, but that doesn't mean I feel all "concepts" are equal or that AMVs which supposedly HAVE a concept are actually pulling their concept off. Will I rate an AMV with a concept higher than an AMV without a concept? Not necessarily, but there's a points category called "concept" I'm mentally tabulating that no amount of special effects or lyric/beat sync will EVER affect. All other things being equal, the video with a concept will always be the better video in my book, but things are almost never equal and so it's really almost a moot point to even discuss if two people aren't already on the same page about this matter.
Here's the thing: some people aren't entertained by AMVs which don't communicate a concept. Some people can't watch AMVs which don't seem to revolve around a concept, even if someone else might find those videos the most entertaining things in the world. Different strokes for different folks - it doesn't make one person right and the other person wrong, it just means people enjoy different things! If you're having a hard time drawing a concept out of the videos you're watching, are you actually watching videos with a concept or even open to thinking about AMVs in those terms? If all you're reading are trashy, ill-written, sensational tweeny-bopper romance novels in which you can't seem to find any sophisticated social commentary, that doesn't mean you can immediately turn around and declare that social commentary in literature is therefore completely and utterly useless. Most likely you're just reading the wrong stuff - put down Twilight and pick up Sandman! The main point of an AMV is to have entertainment, otherwise, someone can't even watch it. A concept isn't very easy to draw out of things like videos. Therefore, concepts are completely and utterly useless.
We can quibble until we're all blue in the face a) whose "fault" it is that a concept isn't communicated, b) whether it's actually anyone's "fault" at all or c) who gets to decide what the "concept" in a video even IS, but please do not dismiss "concept" as a worthless, inconsequential aspect of any creative endeavor whatsoever.

I don't think it would get this thread locked, but it would probably be a good idea to make a different thread for that discussion.

On Topic I guess:
I'm terrible with anything dealing with avi synth and scripting.
I'm awful at using color correction and brightness/contrast stuff.
It took me forever just to understand the basics of decent encoding.

Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
In the past I used to be a disaster with encoding big files. Thanks to Aggressor I can encode correctly my files now
I don't think AE is just limited to creating effects. I like to create original scenes there so that the amv has a different look
Although I have the Sony Vegas, I limit myself to just scene select there. All efects are added in AE
I like to integrate photoshop in order to create those scenes
When dealing with music, if I get bored of it by listening the whole day, then I just say: It's an awesome song but not for amvs

Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
Uhhh.... so much stuff.
1) I'm just too picky. I change things in my videos 5 to 10 times before I eventually say screw it.
2) I have a busy life and a lot of responsibilities, and I honestly don't want to dedicate myself to AMV editing. I want to do more live action, but I don't have money for equipment or a staff that will work with me.
3) I take criticism very badly. If someone says something really negative about my amv, I will shutdown completely and not make anything for several months.
4) I hate masking with a PASSION. I do it only because it magically gets you more views.
5) I'm too competitive. Every video I make is for a contest.
6) I spend more time watching other people's videos than I do working on my own.
7) I don't know how to do good pans, and I'm too prideful to ask.

I'm the opposite, I rarely change my first choice, lol...StarTrinity009 wrote:Uhhh.... so much stuff.

I give an excuse as to why something is the way it is or just get defensive, then I accept the criticism about 10 minutes later, lol...StarTrinity009 wrote:3) I take criticism very badly. Same with me.StarTrinity009 wrote:5) I'm too competitive. Every video I make is for a contest.
I actually don't watch AMVs outside of contests (well, I do, but it's rare).StarTrinity009 wrote:6) I spend more time watching other people's videos than I do working on my own.

Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
I'm not really competitive at all, but I do the same thing. Always thought of it as supporting contests/cons, getting stuff seen, entertaining people... the competition aspect never really feels real enough to get worked up about - its definitely nothing like an actual live event where you are actively performing in front of an audience.l33tmeatwad wrote:Same with me.StarTrinity009 wrote:5) I'm too competitive.
