Since when are AMVS works of art? they are basically mostly the creators of the songs and animes doing. All we are doing is using our program to say we love this anime and this song, and that we wanted to put them together in someway or another, so we made an amv.Emong wrote:I heard a pretty nice quote which goes something like this: "Actually getting the message of a work of art is like being informed about public welfare cuts". At least if you have a slight leaning towards the left you should get the pointOne could say the same about AMV concepts

Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
That's more or less a concept. So, if your beat syncs, your effects and transitions work, and your clips match the song's mood and lyrics(or no lyrics if its an instrumental) than there really doesn't need to be a concept. It just has to be entertaining.

That's a concept? Synching beats and lyrics? Okay, then I've been wrong the whole time :/ then I guess all good amvs need a concept.
Also, I'm not smoking anything, I'm just stating my opinion.

This is a lie.dakotasapphire wrote: Real music videos are made without concept.
You just contradicted yourself.dakotasapphire wrote: Normally people have a special idea in mind.

And this is getting seriously off topic, which I suppose is another flaw - we can't stay on topic.

intructions = concept = guide, basicly "what I want to do".
dakotasapphire wrote:Since when did a concept have anything to do with an AMV?
basicly that's a concept, or the issue here is that concept is only storytelling or something like that? , for me concept is the idea, what separates an amv from random scene after random scene. so there are not bad "suck" amvs, there are poorly develop conceptsdakotasapphire wrote:there are many great amvs that just got popular because they matched the lyrics and the beat syncs. For example: the This is Halloween amv.
sorry about off topic thing.

Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
Let's just throw it out on the table:
Basically EVERY AMV has a concept, it's just a matter of it being deeply thought out or not. The real argument here isn't about concept, it's about "pre-planning" an AMV.Concept:
1. something conceived in the mind: THOUGHT, NOTION

Also, its someone who's been bullying me saying my amvs aren't great because I wasn't storytelling. Its really getting confusing and I'm sort of mad about it.

Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
Sorry for causing you guys trouble... didn't mean any harm.... its just I thought your ideas of a concept are just basically about storytelling...
So, if you focus on the sad moments of a character in an anime(like being tortured as a kid and how they turned out) , then is that a concept??

I don't want to turn this into a "what is art" post, but in a lot of ways some AMV's ARE art. Does it require artistic ability to place clips in a timeline and hope everything turns out ok? Maybe, maybe not. What about trying to convey a message that wasn't a part of the source material? How about elaborating on a barely touched upon theme in the original source? The cohesion of all these different elements makes it more than just taking a song and finding a video and syncing them.dakotasapphire wrote:Since when are AMVS works of art? they are basically mostly the creators of the songs and animes doing. Think about it this way: an AMV is composed of a lot of discrete parts. Is your video source art? Yes. How about the music? Also yes. Now take them both, making significant edits to each. Are they the same? Did some mechanical procedure take place, like a program running a script? No, some kind of creative process was used to meld the two together, creating a hybrid.
