Review - Still Preoccupied with 1985 - suberunker

Review Master Thread

1.)The video will not be posted by the creator (we have announcement forums for that).
2.)The video will not have a currently active announcement thread (go post in the announcement thread instead).
3.)The thread creator should post their thoughts on the video to initiate discussion.
4.)The thread will start with a copy and paste of these 4 rules.

I was hoping that these threads could come back again. I really enjoyed them and I think a lot editors here in the community voice very good opinions about these vids. Especially godix when he was around. I guess we can start out with a not too old, but not too new music video.

I remember watching this video when I was a junior in high school and still it makes me laugh. Afterwards, I would rock out in the car blasting 1985 to the max, pissing off all the old ppl in the quiet peaceful town we lived in. The video concept is neat, the music is cool, and the anime is something we all love. Not only that, but a lot of the ideas used in the video are also pretty clever. Every time I watch all four choruses , I break up laughing just because the references are put together very well. I would say this video is a great Tribute to anime type of AMV, similar to DokiDoki's Right Now. I really like videos that follow that formula of being clever yet be simple at the same time. Anyways, thanks suberunker for making one of the greatest AMVs of all time.

What do you guys think? What is it about this vid that differentiates it from other vids that try to do the same? Or maybe you disagree, what are some criticisms about this vid?
Cheers

Nice, bringin' back the reviews. I'll probably dig something up soon.

I generally don't like comedy videos that are overly visual with the jokes (I'm more of a conceptual comedy guy - a la Something Wicked This Way Comes), but I've always found this video amusing, and it made me laugh the first several times I watched it, years ago. I think what hooked me the most was the editing - even if you take away all the comedic context, this video just flows. I think I've subconsciously tried to emulate many of the editing tricks seen in this video in my own work over the years.

On top of all that, it's just a really fun visual video. The effects work makes the video a joy to watch, even if it's not always perfect. And the anime and .org in-jokes give the video a layer of depth not found in most comedy videos - it's fun to watch again and again until you've found all the little subtleties and picked them apart. Kind of like an Easter egg hunt in AMV form.

Gotta love the classics.

I still can't make it through this video. I remember maybe 7 years ago getting halfway through it, turning it off, and wanting to rant about it.

Bad music. Gimmick concept. Passable editing.

I like this video, but Kevin released Wizard of Ozaka in the same year and I think that blew this video away.
