For a school presentation

Post by emwing » Sat May 14, 2011 8:51 am

Hello AMV forum community! I'm participating in a Culture Day event for a local middle school, and my presentation topic is about Anime. A high school anime club is lending me a hand with the event, and we determined that an AMV showcasing a variety of anime shows, styles, and stories, would be a great opener and provide a unique first impression for the other students.

By posting here I'm hoping this great community of more experienced AMV fans can offer suggestions for such an AMV that I could project onto a classroom screen. Again, this is for a middle school, so there are certain criteria to be followed:
1) no nudity, sex scenes, extreme violence, etc (trying to keep it at/under PG-13)
2) fairly tame song lyrics (I'm pretty sure Eminem wouldn't be appropriate, but certain Linkin Park songs would probably be fine)
3) no super flashy, seizure-inducing scenes
4) ideally there would be no subtitles or excess type because of their distracting nature.

I want to cater to the lowest demographic and am planning for students as young as 12 with no prior exposure to anything anime-related to be in the room. Maybe think of an AMV that would be an appropriate introduction for a teacher, parent, or grandparent to see? orz

I'm hoping for something that has:
1) an upbeat song with English lyrics (sorry, experience has shown that students will talk over an AMV if they find they don't understand what they're hearing)
2) a variety of anime clips from many different series working with its song
3) possibly some unique technical effects enhancing the clips' connections with the music.

The presentation takes place on May 26th, so I don't dare ask for anything brand new as I know many people are already working on projects for upcoming conventions, but if someone might take up the challenge for making something specifically for this, I won't turn you down and would be forever grateful. <3

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey. I don't have much experience, but I suggest using popular stuff like DBZ, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Gundam, etc. You're welcome to check out my videos on YouTube to see if there's anything you can use (I only have 2 videos so far though).

Some songs I recommend are:

Never Too Late, World So Cold, Time of Dying - Three Days Grace
Becoming The Bull, Slow Burn, Lonely - Atreyu
Architects, Savior, The Good Left Undone, The Strength To Go On - Rise Against
Afterlife, So Far Away - Avenged Sevenfold

Hope this helps.

I, on the other hand, wouldn't really suggest those animes
DBZ, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Gundam, etc
Why? Most of people that make amvs from these animes make them ridicoulously fast, full of effects, with agressive music (Today is really popular Drum'n'bass music with Twitch effect from AE). Not to mention that if you don't know the anime and there are like 5 scenes in every second you're not gonna get a thing what it's about.
If you really needed to use them I would suggest you use by Alt_z3 which is full of emotions, even someone who has never seen bleach will get what's happening ,it isn't really fast and I'd say it's one of the best from Bleach.

Well, if I were you I would choose something that contains lot of emotions (people get it even if they didn't want to)... for example one of the most known is probably Life is beautiful (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0slhWiBVr4) or by Shinzo

Another choice that comes to my mind is comedy (again it's simply understandable:) ) For example by Kitsuner and Ileia

Well that's pretty much it from me.

(I didn't mean to offend you Noir X Weiss but I really don't think it's appropriate)

Thank you all so much for the great suggestions. I reviewed all of them and have chosen Blame It On 2009: A Good, Good Year, by Kitsuner and Ileia because it had everything I was looking for and more! I also loved Life is Beautiful, but its tone was a little too depressing and dark for a middle school presentation. I reviewed TheyKilledKenny2011's videos, and while they were full of great action scenes, I felt that they didn't show enough variety for this particular project. Thanks again to everyone for your great suggestions; I have a feeling that this will be a great presentation! :D
