I was looking over the submission rules concerning formatting and I am curious, have you ever gotten a submission on VHS? I thought that was rather odd, but pleased to see Otakon so open to various formats unlike a few I've submitted to this year.

Last year was the first year that I did NOT get any entries on tape. I think prior to 2000 or 2001, Otakon was tape-only.

The impression I get from this "one and out" trolling rule is you REALLY want fresh and new material for the contest. That's a rather strict guideline. Phooey. I guess I'll have to come up with something new.

The worst part about it is my commercial parody won first place at a con that only awarded bragging rights...and you can't display that for anyone to see. :(

Oh man, that deadline is lurking. I don't think I've ever edited this fast or this intense before. Normally I take like several months to crank something out, and I do it slowly and meticulously, sometimes only getting a few seconds or half-seconds perfected at a time. I wanted to start this almost a year ago, but I couldn't until last Friday (I haven't had time to edit anything since December, and budget issues before that prevented me from getting the DVDs,) and it took all weekend to rip/preprocess the stuff needed, so I essentially have a month. The good news is that there is a lot more free time than I usually get this month! :awesome:

I'm actually not at all nervous about this one like I usually am, where I'm concerned about how well its received, etc. Rather, I'm more nervous about getting it done on time. :?

I'mma have to come up with an idea quickly.
Between editing AMV Salad 5 and practically running the Anime Mid Atlantic AMV department throwing together an entry for this con is gonna be a chore.

Both, actually. I say "First place" as opposed to "best" because there are a lot of awards out there that tend to be specifically tailored to give recognition to a certain video, like "Best Gurren Lagaan video done in the correct aspect ratio". So, if your victory can be considered as "I took first place in the ________ category" or "I won best in show at _________" then it's a troll video at that point as far as I'm concerned.
Have you considered making possible entries to allow for "nonwinners of 2 contests lifetime"? That is, they've only won exactly 1 contest before? This could mitigate the complaints we get from some people about Otakon always having new material to send in.

It really doesn't matter to me since I send in something new (or at least something that hasn't broken its maiden yet), but it seems every year you get winning entries from the same people that have won contests at other places before.
