We don't always give such short notice. The rules got up late due to staff changes.

But the deadline is always 7 wks before the con, so that we make and mail out the judging discs in time to get the results in and winners engraved on the trophies etc. We have judging teams in three different cities to coordinate. We are a pre-judged competition.

You determine the winners before the convention itself?

That seems to be pretty common for awards that aren't decided by audience vote. For example, Anime Weekend Atlanta has two/three AMV contests every year, and the winners are all decided before the con.

I received a confirmation on the 27th for my open category submission and challenge submission, have you checked your spam folder, I've had some confirmation mails from other contests end up in there before.
