Nothing near Fukuchiyama. All my peeps are fine. One friend in Ikebukuro had a smashed window. I am mostly concerned about dokool.

Dokool's still in Tokyo, right? I haven't heard about anything serious out of there, other than a lot of people out in the cold for the night with transport mostly not working. So here's to hoping he's alright and wasn't a long train ride away for his place.

Dokool has been posting on facebook so he appears to be okay... Sounds like he had a difficult time getting home but is otherwise fine.

Very worrying news breaking now. As per BBC:

0755: AFP says an explosion has been heard at the Fukushima-Daiichi plant, and says Japanese TV is showing a white cloud above the plant.

0810: Japanese media reports say that radioactivity has risen 20-fold outside the Fukushima-Daiichi plant.

0828: Japan's NHK TV showing before and after pictures of the Fukushima-Daiichi plant. It appears to show that the outer structure of one of four buildings at the plant is no longer there.

Okay, this sounds very concerning. While I've been very skeptical of the scaremongering over nuclear plants, especially given the time available to deal with the cooling problems, this is very very bad. It seems definite that a meltdown has happened. The question is whether it was contained. I hope this is a Three Mile Island and not a Chernobyl. Either way, this is already shaping up to be serious.
